After reading the many threads debating on how to fix Command Points by having them: generating per turn, each detachment subtracting from a max, increasing guardsmen's point value, increasing base Command Points, etc, I've come up with the following Command Point system that should stop batteries and boost mono-factions.

This is a 2 tiered system that grants you CPs based on how big your factions are (Soup vs Mono) and the standard detachment system.
For the first part you generate CPs depending on how many points are in each faction (Excluding those overarching factions listed in the FAQ):
0250 points: 00 CP
0500 points: 01 CP
0750 points: 02 CP
1000 points: 03 CP
1250 points: 05 CP
1500 points: 07 CP
1750 points: 09 CP
2000 points: 12 CP
(You could even call this the new Battleforged bonus)
This will make taking multiple faction detachments to get bonuses cut into your total CP and make taking a mono-faction grant more CP than their soup counterparts. For example the common list with 1000 points of Imperial Guard, 500 points of Blood Angels, and 500 points of Imperial Knights would only generate 5 CP for their "Battleforged" bonus (3 for IG + 1 for BA + 1 for IK). For mono-factions like T'au and Orks they would automatically generate 12 CP since they have no allies. That 180 point Imperial Guard Battalion battery would now cut CP from a list instead of add to it.

The second part is the standard detachment system (The FAQ detachment CP increase would need to be rolled back and the abolishment of the 3 CP battleforged bonus as the first part handles that). If we go back to that IG Brigade + BA Battalion + IK Super Heavy Auxiliary list this list would generate a total of 17 CP (5 from "Battleforged" + 9 for Brigade + 3 for Battalion) a bit less than now 20 (12 for Brigade + 5 for Battalion + 3 for Battleforged) but now an Ork Brigade and Ork Battalion will now generate 24 CP (12 from "Battleforged" + 9 for Brigade + 3 for Battalion) as opposed to 18 CP. With these changes soup generates less CP, mono-factions generate more, and batteries now hurt CP generation. Tell me what you think, C&C welcome.

So 500 point games are screwed for CP?

Nah. Take two Guard Battalions and you get 11 CP to start, plus extra from GS and KA.

For 500 point games you are only -2 CP away from normal, which for a smaller games scaled down CP would probably be better. The detachment bonuses would also be reverted so 2x battalion would be 6 CP.

Edit: I would also increase the Patrol detachment to 1 CP which would further reduce the CP difference to -1 CP for those small games with elite armies.

Yeah, this isn't a good fix.

If you still gain CP for detachments, you're still rewarding MSU, and this does jack all to affect CP Regen.

I'm curious, how does this shaft Necrons compared to the rules currently?
