Any news on an official release for this game yet? For those who don't know, Battlegroup Northag is another "Cold War gone hot" game similar to Team Yankee. It is different from Team Yankee in that it is based on the Battlegroup series of rules, written by former GW designer/White Dwarfer Warwick Kinrade.

I know there's a website that has all of the lists and rules available for download, but being a reasonably old man, I prefer to have a paper copy of my rules with fancy layouts and pictures and such.

Anxiously awaiting it as well. Last I heard it was on a slow burn. Don’t expect it anytime soon.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against it. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the end comes.

I understand wanting to just wait for the book, however, a lot of work is being done here and they are asking for feedback / playtesting on the rules so far.

This is apparently a different approach by Piers and Warwick, I would encourage you to give it a try, these lists are pretty well set out and not too huge if you wanted to print them out.

We have been enjoying what we have played so far.

As mentioned above, a guy on the BG forum has done a lot of great work on a Cold War mod already.

I do remember hearing form Piers, however, that Northag was getting all the development attention at the moment, so it wouldn't surprise me if we see it sometime next year.

Thanks Gents. I'll pick up some stuff and give the beta rules a shot.

Just cause I've kinda lost it in the shuffle: RichardC's work has transitioned from "Fan Development" to "Official Development/Play Test for the Final Book", correct?

As far as I can tell No. I think Northag is still very much it's own thing written by Warwick, ie...not really another BG with theater special rules but instead having some whole new mechanics.

I've read both of them say Richards work (and an amazing amount of work it is) will be considered while Northag is being written, but will ultimately be different.

I just hope they put in the USMC LAV list that Rich wrote up. I've already collected two of them!

I think they are paying a lot of attention to it, see this with piers talking about how they are taking a different approach with Northag. From everything I have gathered it will still be a battlegroup game at heart system wise.

To be honest, I would like a little more clarity on it all.

Clarity would be nice.

I wonder if we will see a smaller soft back supplement between now and Northag.

The next softback is 'Spring Awakening' covering Hungary and the fighting in the region during late 44 and into 45.

As for NORTHAG, it isn't a direct port of Battlegroup to a Cold War setting, as we felt it needed to be different to cope with what is required of it. It will be very different to Richards more traditional conversion of Cold War BG that was based on our original play test concepts.

NORTHAG will be a new system, but in the Battlegroup theme of game design and will be recognisable as such. It will however also be different and in order to cope with a more modern setting.

The game is currently in development with an intended release at Salute 2019.

That's great news. Glad to see the BG train rolling forward at full steam.
