I believe I'm going to use my Betrayal at Calth models to create a Consecrators (DA Successor chapter) army. Can I use the Dark Angels codex, or do I have to use the Adeptus Astartes codex for them? I'm just curious. I'd like to just run them as Dark Angels with a different color scheme. Can I do that legally, or do I have to use the Adeptus Astartes codex for them?

Thanks

NO!!!! the model police will come and take away your minis for painting them like dark angels and using another codex!!! How dare you!

But yes you can paint them what ever color you want and run them as either dark angels or run them as basic marines. Normally if you do a successor chapter you run them with the parent chapter rules. But you can run them as salamanders rules even no one of reason would care. Paint them as you want run them as you please.

To many unpainted models to count.

It depends on what rules you want to use. If you want to use the Dark Angel rules, then you use the Dark Angels Codex, and use the DARK ANGEL keyword instead of a successor chapter keyword. The rules do not care how you paint your models. You can paint your Dark Angels pink with Whitescars iconography for all the rules care, and the rules also don't care about the fluff of "your dudes". Even if you say your dudes are "The Unforgiven Pony Legion of xxxSephirothxxx" as long as your army list uses Datasheets with the DARK ANGELS keyword properly in accordance with the rules in the codex, you're golden.

You have the option to replace the DARK ANGELS keyword with CONSECRATORS (as per page 74 of Codex Adeptus Astartes Dark Angels) if you really, really, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want to, but there is no benefit (it's actually a detriment since you lose access to some relics edit: LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE RELIC OTHER THAN THE HEAVENFALL BLADE) unless Forge World have a CONSECRATORS character knocking about somewhere.
