Hi people,

Two part question here. I recently got the IK: Renegade set and found that both of the large oval bases were pretty significantly warped and wouldn't sit flat, without a lot of pressure, more than i think the whole knight kit would weigh.

- Does anyone know if GW customer service will send you replacement parts if you originally bought the kit through a third party? They said they would be happy to replace them, but have asked for proof of purchase (I haven't responded yet).

- Has anyone had the same problem with the bases and are there any fixes?

Cheers

If they've asked for proof of purchase, and you don't have it since you went third-party, I wouldn't bet on it. Why don't you contact the third-party and get them swapped that way?

A potential fix may be to heat the base and gently bend it in the opposite direction of the warp.
Boil some water and pour it into a container big enough to place the base in it. Let it sit for about 5 mins, remove and bend, again very gently and slowly, in the opposed direct of the warp.
Hold for about 30-60 secs as it cools, then set on a flat surface with a heavy book on top. Keep there for about 5 mins.

If still noticeably warped, place back into the hot water (may need to reboil) for a few moments, then remove and place on a flat surface with a heavy book on top.

You might also be able to do this with a very hot hair dryer instead of hot water. This may allow you to heat just the part of the base that is warped.

That would have to be pretty warped.

1) pile books on it.

2) use quick-grips to hold it flat while gluing the Knight onto it. If it's only lightly warped the knight glues correctly onto the base should hold it flat after it dries.

If you can provide proof of purchase they should replace them even if you bought third party. I bought a copy of IK: Renegade from amazon and the decal sheet was misprinted. I sent them a copy of my receipt from amazon, a picture of the misprinted decal sheet, and the lot number of the box and they sent me a new decal sheet.

Ah thats good news then, I also bought mine from Amazon - I will give it a shot then.

I had tried stacking heavy objects on top of it but that didn't work. I might try the boiling water technique if/when I get replacements.

I had the same problem with one of the bases I got in the Renegade box-set.

It was noticeably warped - probably too warped to use and I used hot water and got it *mostly* fixed It's still very slightly off, but it's fine imo.

My building has extremely hot water at the tap (about hot enough for tea) slightly hotter than that would have made it easier to get back into shape, but i didn't feel like boiling water.

Yes. Heat is usually the culprit, and heat is the usual offender.

Forgive me if someone already proposed this-

But dip the base in hot water- not boiling, but 'too hot to handle', enough so that some tongs or pliers will help.

Lay the base down on something flat and hard and cover it with a pillowcase, lay an iron on it and keep pressing until it re-shapes.

Here's an alternative that worked for me.

The Dunecrawler base in my start collecting AdMech box was horribly warped. I was pretty shocked when I pulled it out of the box--it was closer to Pringle-shaped than flat. I thought about the not-quite-boiling water approach, but the thing is just so big that water didn't seem like a completely viable option.

Enter my wife's hairdryer. On full-tilt.

It was a little bit of a process. I got the base hot enough that it was mildly painful to touch and kept it that way for a few minutes. It never noticeably softened or felt like it was melting or anything like that--which was a bit of a surprise given the experiences I've had fixing bent swords and stuff. The plastic used for those bases seems to be a completely different beast. Anyway, I left the base on a stone counter top and stacked two or three heavy-ish books on top of it overnight. I didn't dunk it in cold water or anything like that, I just left it to cool on its own. The result was a perfectly shaped base with zero detectable warp--and it's stayed that way for around two months by now.

As I said, that's what worked for me and of course your mileage may vary. If you try something similar: be careful, don't burn yourself, don't electrocute yourself, don't burn your house down, don't vaporize your base, don't ruin your wife's hairdryer, get your parents' permission if applicable, and just generally use good sense and judgement about it. Good luck!

I recently purchased a Militarum Tempestus Start Collecting Box, in which I bought at a non-GW games store. It only had half of a Taurox and three Scion sprues. I hit the owner of the store up, he sent me a pdf of my order, I forwarded that in the email to GW customer service, along with the other information they want, and bingo-bango, I got a full new Taurox within 5 days without paying a cent. I did this a few months ago.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.
