Am making my list (which includes 6 heat Lance Reavers) and realize I could save a good bit of points not doing this. Also realize that I get -1 to hit when I advance (red grief for T1 charge), so am wondering if these are worth keeping, or if I am better off bumping them to another squad of dark reapers/shining spears

Mixing eldar with de makes it harder to say. In my pure de list i find them to be extremely useful. I take a squad of 12 with 4 blasters on them. Their threat potential is extremely high so people seem to fire a lot of firepower into them (which i dont mind) and the ability to finish off something that a ravager starts to kill, or tie up an enemy squad hiding in the back in cc, its really useful.

However comparing them to shining spears it becomes a different story. I think i still prefer the reavers but its really a question of what the rest of the army looks like.

I do neither, i have 30+ Reavers and i dont play with the 4-5 Blaster/HL's i have with them, to be they are best as a turn 1 charge, or anti-horde unit, the S4 -1ap is nice against t-shirt saves, give them +1 attack, they also can have the stratagem for 9D6 and on a 4+ you do a MW, move them fast and have fun along with MW on the charge, you can do 4-6 MW's before you even attack.

You "could" use them as a anti-character roll and take Blasters or HL (HL is better for character hunting).

Reavers IMO are meant to be cheap and plentiful, you want a lot and you want them to be cheap.

I agree. I never take blasters on them. They are an ultra fast distraction unit.

Kabbies and scourge are much better places to put blasters.
