Forgive me if this list features concepts previously discussed. I've only recently acquired Night Scythe boxes (plan to magnetize) and, although the Croissant of Doom days seem to be over, the models look sweet. Trying now to incorporate them into a concept. I'm currently locked into a static playstyle that I enjoy, but I'm looking for an alternative list that can be quickly tailored beforehand or during the game that provides a lot of variability without constantly plotting in Battlescribe. My typical list is an Overlord, 2x Crypteks, 60 Warriors, 3x Doomsday Arks, Destroyers, and Scarabs in a Sautekh Battalion/Spearhead. That list either utterly dominates or completely falls apart among my friend group, depending on sequencing and how terrain forces movement or line-of-sight/line-of-effect.

Mobile/Multi-Threat concept.

Dynasty: TBD

Air Wing Detachment

Flyer:
3x Night Scythe

Battalion Detachment

HQ:
Cryptek, Canoptek Cloak, Relic: Veil of Darkness
Overlord, Staff of Light, Warlord: Immortal Pride

Troops:
2x Immortals x 10, Weapon TBD
2x Warriors x 20

Fast Attack:
2x Scarabs x 5

Heavy Support:
2x Doomsday Ark

Points: 1995
CP: 9

This list looks fun because it promises to be more flexible while retaining power and redundancy:

3x Night Scythes provide redundant transport capability for the 2x Immortals. If two survive, they can deploy Immortals on two objectives, against two irritating units, or both. If one survives, pay 1 CP for double-deploy. FAQed "transport" keyword made Tomb World deploy better. Immortal weapons can be tailored to targets, but are more likely to be in Rapid Fire range with Tomb World deploy.

2x Warrior Blobs provide mini Silver Tide. Immortal Pride Warlord trait on the Overlord keeps them in the fight until completely annihilated. Overlord can grant MWBD to both units for 1 CP, which could be brutal if an opponent gets within Rapid Fire range.

2x Doomsday Arks provide heavy long-range guns. Depending on Dynasty Trait, they will be inclined or disinclined towards mobility.

Cryptek can either buff Reanimation Protocols or provide a small buff to Doomsday Ark self-repair, depending on how battle swings. Veil of Darkness also provides an additional mobility option.

2x Scarabs screen, capture objectives, tarpit, or suicide as necessary.

Thoughts on a) how effective would this list be in an objectives-oriented game; b) what is this list's largest weaknesses; c) what are some of the best Dynasty traits/stratagems/tactics that you can think of for this list, remembering variable Immortal loadouts; and d) do you think this would be fun to play, both with and against? Thanks!

Although I don't rate Night Scythes that high I think this list could be pretty decent.

Sautekh or Mephrit are the best for this of course. Sautekh for the stratagem that'll pop your Scythes Tesla more efficiently and cp farm WL Trait. If you're using an aggressive veil, Immortal Pride might not be necessary, you'll be too spread out to take advantage (if defensive, ignore). Mephrit because you'll close the gap very fast as long as your flyers survive. I tend to lean towards Sautekh these days though.

If you want to be ultra-aggressive, I would maybe consider cutting a unit of warrior. I feel like that one unit will be left behind and it's too risky putting inside a flyer. Invest in something faster to keep up with the flyers and veil, like Blades or a CCB. For a more temperate play-style, 2 blobs are fine.

Nice to see a list without Destroyers tbh, Been coming up with a few concepts that'll let me part with them too. But their damage is just too nice haha.

Night scythes are wasted points. So many flyers makes you vulnerable getting tabled, no boots on the ground, you lose the game. You can veil the cryptek and 10 immortals to grab an objective. No destroyers are a nogo. They are the best necron unit. Use them as nephrekh and deepstrike them, protects them from getting shot turn 1, if you dont go first.

And which FAQ has that in it?

It is not in the main 40k Necron one.

I would like to know the answer to the above post as well. Had a game a while back where I thought that Night Scythes had to act disembarking units as if they were deep struck.

I thought I saw it confirmed in the Necron tactica thread when the FAQ released. I don't have a link and might be mistaken.

P5freak - I normally run destroyers and generally agree. I'm looking for a different list that might be fun and different while still being semi-effective.

The Necron Tactica group was complaining that the Transport Keyword was NOT added in the FAQ.

Not much can be done to the Monolith as it has a Stratagem that lets it work correctly, but they do need to add either "treated as disembarked" or add the Transport Keyword to the Night Scythe.

Well that's a shame.

I don't think that necessarily invalidates the list as it's still throwing distraction Immortals downfield and/or on objectives. It will make trying to get an annoying enemy unit in Rapid Fire range more difficult, however.

Can anyone comment on the distraction value of Night Scythes? Do people overestimate their capabilities and shoot at them more than warranted, or do experienced folks (not necessarily my group) learn to ignore them?

Three night scythes only distract yourself. You have to plan their move, considering your own and enemy movement, staying away 1" from enemy models (if not you flyers crashes), or fly off the board.

Me and my 4 night scythes cry when I see this. I wish they were worth running. But I cannot in good conscience recommend them right now.
Mephrit drop immortals out of Night Scythes are solid, but the scythes themselves will hold the rest of the list back.

I'd convert the gauss immortals to tesla immortals, keep them tight to the warriors to throw out MWBD.

If you want fast firepower, x9 Tomb Blades with Shieldvanes give you a great deal more firepower and maneuverability over the scythes.

Honestly just walk up the board in a huge bubble and play around your cryptek , make your infranty unkillable. Drop the night scythes and take a 3rd doomsday ark with the others a nihilak spearhead. Then use your remaining points on wraiths for fast objective grabbers, using night scythes makes you predictable and easy to counter meaning your army is spread all I've rthe board giving you cryptek less value. Abuse your cryptek and your gunline shouldn't die very easily.-Berry

That last post is usually what I do.

So, not competitive, got it. Good enough for a fun friendly game or recipe for a blow out?

To be honest, running a

Overlord with WS, VoD, Immortal Pride
Cryptek w/ Chrono
Lord with SoL
X20 Warrior
x10 T-Immortal
x10 T-Immortal

It so far in my local meta has proven insurmountable.
That is a lot of bodies, all with Fearless, all with a 5++, and all of them getting back up on 4s, all of them rerolling 1s to wound, and both tesla squads getting MWBD each turn.
That, and you can't get through the warriors or lock them in melee because of the Veil of Darkness.

Not Hyper Competitive, but solid.
