With the recent Raicho rework and rumors of possibly more reworks for existing armies, I thought it would be fun to put some thought into what I'd like to see for MAF. I don't actually expect MAF to receive any real reworks at all, but I think this can still be a fun discussion. Here's what I'd like to see. I'd love to hear what you'd like!

Oznat: I'd really like to see the Oznat's role expanded. Right now she serves a good purpose uinlocking Hungries and providing smoke cover, but I feel like her speed and close combat prowess are kind of wasted. I'd like to see the unit's AVA increased to 3, with a new SMG/Sensor/Haris profile. This would allow a small group of Oznats to act as a fast moving close combat team while leaving the Core Fireteam option open. The Haris could take advantage of their numbers to make up for the Oznat's lack of close combat skills, and their solid CCW and ranged weapon options would make they pretty effective. Sensor provides a valuable tool for both MAF and vanilla CA that would make this profile viable even on its own. Also, I very often want to include Hungries in my list but don't want a Hungries link. Having to include an Oznat just to unlock Hungries often makes the whole thing seem like more trouble than its worth, but being able to take an Oznat Sensor or an interesting Oznat Haris would certainly encourage me to do it more often.

Yaogat: I've always felt like the Hacking Device profile was very out of place for this unit, and combined with the MSV2 made for a very expensive specialist option. I think this profile could be improved by removing MSV2 and reducing the cost, changing it to a Paramedic (which would be much more useful I think) or simply eliminating it in favor of allowing Rakortarks to link with the unit.

Raktorak: The Rakotorak works well enough as a cheap link filler for Suryats, but it's somewhat lackluster and not particularly characterful. The fluff for this unit is (to me) extremely interesting, and I'd love to see it reflected more in the rules. Also, AVA of 2 suggests that the Raktorak meant to also be taken on its own, and thats just not attractive in either MAF or vanilla CA. I'd love to see the Raktorak's link options expanded to include Yaogats, Vanguard, Sogarats and Kurgats. I'd also like to see new profiles that replace Specialist Operative with either Counter Intelligence or Advanced Command. These may seem like strange choices, but one of the Raktorak's primary duties is to support his commander and regiment logistically, and these two skills dealing with Command Tokens would both represent that. Having access to either of these would be an excellent reason to include a Raktorak in either a MAF or CA force even if you didn't plan to use him in a link. Finally, I think Baggage would be an excellent and flavorful skill for the Raktorak. Baggage would allow the Raktorak to refill disposable weapons, something that is pretty valuable to MAF with all of its Mines and Panzerfausts. This fits the fluff extremely well. Baggage also gives the Raktorak a bonus to Casvac rolls. While this is extremely unlikely to ever come up, Raktoraks have been literally described as carrying their wounded commanders on their backs off the field of battle. Its a very fluffy skill.

Kurgats: I'd love to see the Kurgats receive another weapon option, preferably something with more explosives. A Grenade Launcher, Mine Launcher, Drop Bears, a Mine Launcher that fires D-Charges (a someone else recently suggested). I'd also like to see the unit pick up an extra point of ARM. And the Autocannon needs to be dealt with somehow. Its such a subpar unit. I can accept the common argument that the gun may be too powerful to be linked, but I think it instead needs something to allow it to sometimes win fire fights, or at least survive losing them. Sapper has been a common request for this unit since literally the original HS book.

Daturazi: Way back when the KHD was introduced I suggested that Daturazi were a natural fit for this hacking device due to their fluff and their old school ability Coma. I was sad to see that a Daturazi KHD has never materialized, but I think its time for it now.

Zerats: I think Zerats really benefit from having a nice selection of basic weapons, but really suffer from being so fragile and missing out on camo. Over the years I've seen several great suggestions to improve the unit, from new skills or equipment to stat increases. I'd like to see see the unit gain +1 PH. Infiltrators in Infinity almost universally get a PH boost, but the Zerat went without, and she'd greatly benefit from the bonus. Additionally I'd love to see the unit with any of the following (perhaps on just specific profiles): MSV1, Marksman 2, Fatality 1, Full Auto 1. I think any of these would be super fitting for a skirmisher that relies on aggression over stealth. Finally, I wouldn't mind seeing the Combi+E-Mitter profile trade it's Combi for something more interesting. A Marksman Rifle or SMG would be pretty great.

Sogarat: I've been using the Sogarat since the profile was first released and I've rarely been pleased with it. Even at its current reduced cost it never seems to perform well as anything but a bullet sponge. I know that a lot of people argue thats exactly the units role, but I think thats boring as hell. Thanks to its impressive weapons the Sogarat is good at doing damage if it wins a fire fight, but its very poor at actually winning fire fights. Consider this: The Sogarat is only 10% more likely to win a face to face roll than a Vanguard HMG, and only 5% more likely than a Raktorak Red Fury or a Yaogat Spitfire (and if that Yaogat is facing an enemy with any kind of visual mod he's much more likely to win). The Suryat HMG is just as likely, and the the Rodak HMG is more likely. Facing anything with a visual modifier (Mimetism, Camo, ODD) really tanks the Sogarat's effectiveness. If you actually want to win gun fights the Sogarat is one of the worst choices in MAF. That shouldn't be the case. The Sogarat doesn't need to be the most devastating gunfighter in the game, but he should be able to face down serious threats in his active turn and have a better chance of prevailing. Full Auto (lvl 1 or 2) seems designed for the Sogarat, and we've already seen it on the cheaper Kriza. Winning through increased burst seems like a perfect fit. It maybe overpowered with the AP HMG (although I think thats worth debating), but I'd happily give up AP in exchange (especially since destroying armor is one of the few things MAF is actually good at). Alternatively, AP or Full Auto could be separate profile options. I also think Marksman lvl 2 would be an excellent ability for the Sogarat, and again I'd be happy to give up the AP for it. Additionally, i'd love to see Sogarats able to form a Core team on their own or a Haris team with the Raktorak. Kornak is great, but I really miss being able to take Sogarat links without him. Finally, a new non SWC Sogarat profile would be hugely appreciated.

Vanguard: Ditch the K1 Sniper Rifle and bring back the MSR. The K1 SR is a neat idea, but Vanguard are the wrong platform for it, and the MSR is a much better weapon for them in nearly every situation, and a suitable substitute for the K1 SR if they need to take out a TAG. I'd love to see K1 weapons show up elsewhere in the sectorial though. I think Vanguard suffer from being very generic but also too expensive (in a very expensive faction) to be a real viable choice. They're just usually going to be beat out by Daturazi, Hungires links and Kurgats. We already know that CB won't reduce their cost, so i think providing them with some kind of additional capability to make them more attractive as both individuals and a link would be great.

Those are my ideas. What would you like to see?
