So according to the fluff, Techmarines are typically trained on Mars, and they have red armor with the Machina Opus (black and white skull-in-cog) on the right pauldron and the chapter symbol on the left pauldron. However, I play AdMech, and I have my own Forge World (well, it's more an Explorator Fleet). Do we know of any Techmarine that trained on Forge Worlds other than Mars? Or maybe Mars is a synecdoche for all Forge Worlds? And what if this Forge World or the chapter (they're Blood Angels) and Mars aren't particularly close?

Anyhow, if he did this, would I paint his armor the Forge World's colors and use their symbols in lieu of Mars's?

It's your game and world...I think the idea is cool. Do whatever you want. If you're looking for proven fluff-examples, I have no idea. My Chaos Warp Smiths are just Techmarine models...and they're not red. They still look fantastic.

It's worth mentioning that not all Chapters follow the practice of painting Techmarines' armour red. For example, Salamanders paint it green with only the helmet and pauldron red (IIRC - Can't check cos my copy of the Salamander's Omnibus is packed away). I'd say it's just as likely for them to be sent to a Forgeworld for training than Mars - it's all Mechanicum at the end of the day.

Then maybe this is a weirder question: When Blood Angel Techmarines paint their armor red, is it for their chapter or for their dual allegiance?

Because my Blood Angels are heterodox... so they would likely do the opposite.

Maybe I'm just being indecisive. I'm basically chasing between with Techmarine with:
1) Sky blue plate, sky blue golden skull right pauldron, and a rust red BA left pauldron
2) Rust red plate, sky blue golden skull right pauldron, and a rust red BA left pauldron
3) Martian red plate, Machina Opus right pauldron, and rust red BA left pauldron
