Hello all,

Last week or so I posted on here about my interest in taking part in a tournament soon. Nothing too big like LGT or anything at WW, perhaps just a one-day thing so see how I feel about it. With that in mind I've been building on a list that so far has had pretty good results.

Manticore [8 PL, 143pts]: Heavy Bolter

++ Total: [104 PL, 1999pts] ++

I have yet to use this exact list, although I have used one with some small variations as described below:
- Only 3 Jetbikes instead of 4
- No Misericordias
- 3x3 Custodes instead of 2x4 + 1x3
- Valdor instead of Telemon
- No HWT in Guard squads and Flamers instead of Plasma
- 2x Leman Russes instead of Manticore

I feel that some of the changes made may not be worth it, in particular the Plasma and Autocannon. In the last couple of games the Infantry didn't really do much, and I feel the Autocannons will at least put a bit of hurt down the board. I'm happy to drop the Plasma (although it'd be nice to just swap it for Flamers to deter charges), but if possible I'd like to keep the Autocannons. Yes I know everyone loves Mortars but I'm not planning to buy anything else at the moment.

The Telemon is new, haven't used him yet but I think he has real potential, I can either use him, or swap him for an Achillus and use FGLTC on him.

There's only 5 Jetbikes but that may be enough. Last game was against Tyranids, and over the course of the game they killed the Hive Tyrant, Bonesword Warriors and a Trygon that were making my time difficult.

Thoughts? I'm not expecting to turn up at a tournament and steamroll everyone, but would this have any potential at all?

I'm hoping to use this list tonight in a quick game so any feedback I can get before then would be appreciated.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

1. Why no Vexilla Praetor?
2. Thought about mixing the Guard squads up so you have at least one shield in each squad?
3. Strangely enough, despite the cost, I've found the best Telemon set up to be an accelerator and a fist, and to be very aggressive with him (also helps if your opponent tries to charge your Telemon).

Hope that helps.

1: The Vexilla is great, no doubt about that, but it means losing 2 Custodians from an already small number to free up the points. The alternative is dropping the Manticore but again, that's opening up a large hole in the list.
2: Good idea, I will do that instead.
3: Is 1 Accelerator enough? It's basically a 6-shot Battle Cannon with a bit extra Ap, swapping it out for a fist adds around 60 points, and if I'm moving around getting into combat my BS drops, and I can't double-tap the Spiculus Launcher. Is it worth it, especially as I'm dropping the Valdor to take him and losing a fair bit of anti-tank firepower by doing so? This will be my first time using him so any feedback is appreciated on him.

I personally think the extra survivability (especially against Guard, Nids and Tau) is worth losing a couple of Guard.

From my experience, if you take him against a tank army you'll be very disappointed with his ranged weapons; his shooting is only really good against mid-toughness, multi-wound units rather than big things. His launcher is also pretty disappointing since, most of the time you won't have the chance to double tap because you're either out of range or are forced to move for other reasons.
What the fist really helps with is stopping your Telemon from getting bogged down since it can't leave combat and shoot, a problem that a lot of dreadnoughts have.
