Any other fans of The Venture Bros? It's been possibly my favourite animated show since I first stumbled onto it late one night in 2006 on Adult Swim.
Season 7 has just started airing (currently 2 episodes in) and so far it's exceeding expectations and then some! Just before season 7 started, I started rewatching the show from season 4, and it's insane how much foreshadowing that most of the fanbase seems to have missed. I'm a member of a Venture Bros Facebook group and frequent an animation board, and it seems everyday someones picking up on some minor line or background reference that has tied into an episode 3, 5 or 8 years later! Not to mention all the great in-jokes and character moments you pick up on a repeat viewing.

If you haven't checked out The Venture Bros, I can't recommend it enough! It should be getting the amount of praise Rick & Morty seems to receive. Also, starting now means you have 7 seasons to enjoy, without 2-3 year wait between them!

For people who are fans; what're your favourite episodes and characters? What do you think of season 7 so far?
I'd be hard pushed, but I'd have to say Showdown at Cremation Creek parts 1 and 2. For character, its no contest; Gary/21. Special mention to The Sovereign, just because I'm a huge David Bowie fan.

Thank you for starting this thread! I've always wondered if there were fellow Venture Bros fans on this forum, but given that we don't have an equivalent general cartoon thread like we do for anime, it's always just slipped my mind.

I completely forgot Season 7 was already out until I read your post, so I'll be back shortly with my impressions. To answer your questions though, I'd say my favourite episodes so far is "All This and Gargantua 2" , "The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together Part Two" and "Handsome Ransom". The former because of just how much goes on and finally gets tied together, and the scene with the Investors and Dr. Killinger is just amazing. The latter two because its hilarious seeing the clones get slaughtered and Doc and Hammer being so on the nose with Captain Sunshine, him being voiced by Kevin Conroy just takes the cake!

My favourite character right now is probably still the Monarch, though as you mentioned 21 is basically what a lot of the people on the show wished they could be like, he comes pretty close. Only the two of them could get kidnapped villains to end up getting murdered and having their butts eaten by a single guy accidentally.

Venture Bros was one of the best shows to ever grace Adult Swim when I was in college. Robot Chicken and Family Guy were fun for a while, but VB was the best. Glad to see it’s still running; I knew they took a multi-year hiatus, didn’t know it was on again.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Venture Bros is great and easily one of the best things on Adult Swim, also a huge fan of Rick & Morty. The difficulty with Venture Bros is the long stretches between seasons and the wonky time slots they play it in. The later seasons have a lot going on with the plot and it's very difficult when you miss an episode.

I tend to like the earlier seasons prior to the Sphinx arc as it's far more Johnny Quest centered where they start bringing in a lot of GI Joe which is still funny but IMO has a different feel.

As far as favorite episodes I think it's probably the very first one Dia de los Dangerous!, the scene where Brock is running down the minions is probably my favorite out of any season.

Yeah, I'm so happy there's more Venture Bros fans!
I've just rewatched Operation P.R.O.M. and it's definitely in my top 10 episodes.

and the scene with the Investors and Dr. Killinger is just amazing.

Killinger is such an underrated secondary character. I can never get enough of him or Augustus St. Cloud.

Fact: Brock Samson could only be played IRL by Psycho Sid Vicious from the 80s, 90s.

Good call!

the scene where Brock is running down the minions is probably my favorite out of any season.

Iconic. Me and a friend used to quote the opening to this episode all the time.
"Did you think I'd forget what you did to me?"
"..Maybe."

Get on season 7 and meet back here for discussion!

2 ton 21 is probably actually my favorite character. Him and 24 were the best. Followed very closely by brock samson.

I feel like season 7 so far is just what should have been the season 6 finale. Season 6 felt really unfinished and hadn't quite come together, but what we've seen so far seems to have a firmer footing on the new setting.

It's definitely one of the true greats despite the many, many lengthy delays in new episodes. That said, I think some of the purity of the humor got lost somewhere after the second season. The show got very preoccupied with building up a bunch of massive lore with disappointing resolutions and struggled when several major characters (Brock) found mainstream success and didn't have time for it anymore. There are a ton of great episodes still, but my favorites are largely from the first two seasons just from the purity of their concepts.

I loved this show when it first started. I didnt even realize it was still going. I thought they gave up after the 3rd or 4th season. I need to get back in to it.

I feel it became crap at season 3, same as Rick and Morty coincidentally.

I’ve seen it all but I only barely remember most of the stuff you guys are talking about due to the decade between each season airing.

I had no idea people went off it during/after season 3. I honestly don't think there was ever a decline in quality, and if there was it certainly wasn't a drastic one.
I remember Adventure Time had a sudden and steep drop in quality (that I hear it never fully recovered from), but I never got that feeling from Venture Bros.
I guess some people didn't like the big story arcs taking up so much of the episodes, but I enjoyed it. I've always been really invested in the big story of the show.

Anyway, it's great to see there's quite a few fans! And the new episode airs in under two days!

I think there was a shift in the storytelling and the characters, replacing Brock with Sgt Hatred I don't think was a very good move. Brock provided a good offset to Dr Venture's neurosis, he is the lynch pin that made it look like the Venture family could manage to pull together despite constantly teetering on the edge of complete dysfunctionality. He was basically the straight man in the comedy set up. Sgt Hatred just doesn't fill that same spot as he's a blubbering mass of insecurities as bad as any of the other Ventures.

Monarch also goes through some pretty radical changes with his character's status and they expand a lot with the Guild background story, I think it helps the venture universe grow but it also alters the success formula that they in the early seasons. IMO a lot of the villains in the last two seasons are pretty weak and just don't feel like they are firing on full cylinder where the Monarch is always a scene stealer. The later seasons aren't bad, but they do have a very different feel.

I'd never call it a drastic drop of quality or anything, but it depends on what exactly you were a fan of. There's a big stretch where Warburton's success meant if you were in it for Brock you were likely very disappointed, and most of the deep lore OSI/ORB/GCI stuff didn't have endings that built into anything super satisfying. I mean, there were so many times the show felt like it was building towards something like Gargantuan-2 but didn't, and when you're talking 7 years waiting to tie up loose ends, well... its less enthralling than the episodes that largely wrapped up their own stories early on.

But the show is brilliant and the sheer amount of random things set up and called out years later never ceases to amaze me. It's sometimes clearly "we decided to do something with this one liner" and not actually well seeded plotting, but I still have to give the show a hand when things like Captain Sunshine believing the Monarch is invulnerable happen. It's a great show and I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go with the Morpho trilogy.

So yeah. I really enjoy this show. I wish it were more frequent, but I think given the cast it just won't happen.

As an aside I don’t think Adventure Time has had a particular drop in quality that I recall, it just does the same thing where it goes on long long hiatuses. Iirc they’re supposed to be in the middle of their final season but no new episodes have aired for Months.

To tie it back in, I think it’s less a drop on quality, and more the show naturally expands as it goes on, and you just might not like that added on stuff as much as the original small core.

Something that was at rock bottom to begin with can't have a drop in quality.

I just watched the most recent episode of Venture Bros. and WOW can I just say that by the end of the episode my jaw was on the floor. They're really tying up a lot of the plot lines this season, and the episode just really highlights how much of a complete ass Jonas Venture Sr. was, he was basically a supervillain all but in name. I was expecting more closure for Rusty/Monarch but either way it was a fantastic way to address several theories that fans have had for a while. Also, as usual Clancy Brown steals the show as Red Death.

Yeah, as I mentioned I’ve forgotten so many of the details over the years, but I really don’t remember Jonas being portrayed as that much of a d bag before.

And yes, Red Death is the best.

He's always been referred to in the present as a great man but whenever we get flashbacks he's almost always been shown as a self servicing jerk. Brilliant, yes, but pretty unflinching in his willingness to step on others to get ahead. At the very least, he's been shown as a womanizer at least as far back as the second episode of season 3.

Overall, though, hugely rewarding episode that answered some long standing questions in satisfying ways. Definitely two thumbs up.

That's been hinted at so regularly and for so long it was more a nice confirmation than a huge reveal. Not sure if it will even have any impact on the series since no one in the conversation survived or if this is one of those things they answer and sweep under the rug. Still one of those great details to see get tied up though.

Because I'm still rewatching the series, it's really cool to see all the hints they dropped. It was hardly the best kept secret, but still really great to have it confirmed. And confirmed in such a satisfying way!

The Morpho trilogy really felt like the missing Season 6 finale. The latest episode really feels like the show doing what its always done best. Nice to feel like its really settled in to the new setting.

Yeah, I'm enjoying the new season. Completely unspoilered, so the 3 part arc took me off guard several times, but in a good way.
