Hey guys, been browsing through the internet looking for a new sci-fi game, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions based on the following criteria:

-28-30mm scale
-"platoon level" army size (20-40, slightly larger is okay)
-plays on a 4x4
-preferred if rules have model line
-d10 or larger die, d6 is alright, just feels a bit limiting.

Check out Warpath Firefight from Mantic. I've played a couple games and had a good time with it. It's set in their Deadzone universe.

How has this game flown completely under my radar?! I can't wait to dig in to information about this game system, thank you!

You've also got Beyond the Gates of Antares which I think is worth looking into which I think meets all your criteria.

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

I've just supported the Permanent European Union Citizenship initiative. Please do the same and spread the word!

Oops, saw the "preferred if has model line". Thats going to be a huge limiter.

Tomorrows War is very good and flexible.

Depends on how you define sci-fi, but our group is loving Konflict 47.

I second Warpath, full scale. I've not tried firefight.

I watched a few videos of Antares being played, it is mainly that their models are completely hit or miss to me... with most of them being a miss.

Konflikt '47 looks freaking awesome. How well does it play on a 4x4 table at points levels of 750-1000? And do the models look completely out of place on more sci-fi oriented terrain?

I'd say pretty good for table size. We're doing a escalation league and we're at 500pts and have been playing on a 3x3(some on 4x4). This boardsize should be good to 750 at 1k I'd look at a 6x4.

As far as how they look, it depends on the terrain and how its themed. The more rift tech stuff you have the more it will fit into sci-fi terrain.

Note that there are folks that have converted the 40K factions to Beyond the Gates of Antares (I think the rules are either in the Proposed Rules sections or right in this forum), and you can always sub in other models for Warlord’s games (Eldar = Algerian, could use Tau for Concord, Orks for Ghar, etc.)

Also, there is Dakka’s own Maelstrom’s Edge....

It never ends well

Thanks for that Wargamejunkie! I will look a bit harder into Konflikt if I can drum up some interest in it with the other guys.

I looked at Maelstrom's Edge... But nothing really caught my eye with the factions. Maybe it was just the original Epirian plastics that made me just not care, but I didn't seem to enthused about the rules either from what I remember. I will have to give it another look though.
