pg. 28 in Fulgrim talks about how administrators from the Council of Terra thought about making the Laer a protectorate instead of conquering them (conquering them, not wiping them out). Fulgrim rejected that and decided to wipe out the Laer not because they were aliens but because they held their beliefs and technology to be comparable to that of humanity. That is cool.

That Is interesting.

As far as I know... An Alien species was never made into a protectorate by the Imperium?

Maybe the jokaero?

Nope. The Laer were a fully sentient alien species. Read Graham Mcneill's Fulgrim book and find it on pg. 28.

No. They were definitely aliens. Read pg. 28. It says without a shadow of a doubt they are aliens when Fulgrim said that for an alien race to hold their beliefs and technology to be comparable to humanity's is blasphemy. And Lexicanum says they are aliens. I prefer the German Lexicanum.
