It's a classic conflict of interest and gives the appearance of impropriety even if there isn't any.

Can you give a couple of example?

You're probably thinking I'm doing this to antagonise you, I'm actually curious as to wherever this actually creates any issues.

The US Politcs threads (multiple examples), and the recent YMDC Poll thread here in Nuts and Bolts. insaniak locked the thread mere moments after I dared disagree with him.

I can't comment on the politics thread as I avoid the off-topic forums, but I think in relation to your poll thread, I wouldn't call it an abuse of power or anything like that. You proposed a change to YMDC, the mod in question countered as to why the change would be unsuitable, and had to reiterate the claim later on.

Under the couch

We already rode this merry-go-round not so long ago.

The CliffsNotes version is that the moderators on this site are moderators precisely because they are active on the site. Moderation is logged and reviewed by the rest of the team where necessary, so it ultimately makes no difference whether the person who locks the thread was the mod posting in it or one of the other members of the team.

Moving on.
