So I’ve decided to take the plunge and go in with 30K. I really took a long time to come to this but after getting a few games in with borrowed armies I’ve really enjoyed the sense of close competition and balance that I don’t feel like I get much of in 40K.

So, wth that said, I’ve decided to start an Alpha Legion Force. I know there are a few units I really want, but as afar as the rest I’m trying to get started with a small, playable force that I can build off of. This is where I’d love some input.

The units I really want off the bat:
-Armillus Dynat
-Lernaen Terminators

I’ve got about 15-20 of The plastic Mk. III armor to start with, and I felt like Pride of the Legion would be a good build (same as most beginners!). How can I make this happen without breaking the bank to much? What should I add?

One of them filthy casuals...

If your dedicated to runing pride of the legion i would suggest either runing them with the +1 weapon skill with powerswords leting them cut through most infantry units, or with the +1 strength with melta guns giving you a good way to bypass armoured ceramite as well as allowing you to be in range first or second turn with infiltrate or scout. Also if you are unaware sniper has been taken away from veterans in the new faq.

If running veterans is not important to you i would suggest running the squads as tactical marines and then buying an aditional squad or two and turning them into special wepons squads with either melta or plasma, both weapon sets can be bought off of forgeworld so you dont have to buy the weapons separately.

For expanding your army in the future i would suggest rhinos, to improve scout range to 12" or protect infiltrating units as well as giving a extra 6" move great for meltaguns as it allows you to be in melta range first turn. Dreadnoughts are also good as you can infiltrate them alowwing them to get turn 2 charges without having to buy a drop pod also with BaC their extremely cheap. Other than that just make sure you get first turn and have enough anti vehicle units.
