We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Doesn't look bad, but I feel the absence of dennis...hopefully they can compensate for that.

Glenn Howerton (Dennis) is in this season.

During an appearance at the TCA summer press tour on Friday, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” cast members Charlie Day, Danny DeVito, Rob McElhenney, and Kaitlin Olson revealed that Glenn Howerton will in fact appear in most of the episodes of the show’s upcoming thirteenth season.

“We went through all sorts of ideas before we knew that Glenn was coming back,” McElhenney said. “He’s in pretty much every episode.”

And everyone doubted him for cultivating mass.

And now he is doubting himself!

So, the new season premiered last night. What did everyone think?

Any favorite moments/lines from the episode?

Spoiler:
I enjoyed the episode, although more on subsequent watches. I viewed the new episode three times last night trying to catch all the jokes and awkwardness. Mindy Kaling's character was awesome, but initially I was put off by her. I couldn't tell if it was her acting (which is usually great) or if it was the character itself. I am leaning towards the character being what I didn't like, and after thinking about the show some more and reading other reviews/opinions I think I understand why I didn't like her. She was intentionally bad. Going through the IASIP Reddit, there are some great theories about this, but this one in particular I think nails what the show was going for with this episode:

u/Bristerst wrote:you know what, I think it was meant to be this way. I can respect it being a poor episode with the message it sends.

Think about it, the episode was poor overall, none of the jokes are landing. The theme is moving forward, letting go of Dennis, it just doesn't work. Mindy Kaling is not working aswell. So in the very last minutes they kind of give us a "don't worry" sign with Dennis' return.

It's like "what the show could have been", it's messy and lazy, but by the end of the episode everything is back to normal. The waitress dumps Charlie, Dennis returns, the gang is back. They kinda undid the final episode of last season with a clear statement: "this is the way the show works, and it's not gonna change".

That totally makes sense to me. Also, using Mindy Kaling who was on not only a cast member but also producer and writer on The Office, a show with a very famous (disastrous) casting change late in its run, makes the meta joke hilarious to me.

Also, Charlie blowing the tuba in sex-doll-Dennis' ass was television gold. So glad this show is back!

All I know is, Dee is still a bird. But yep glad to see the show is back and feels like home again.
