I’m interested in battle companies and dipping back into the ME SBG

I guess the Bc book is not a self contained game and it requires a core book and an army book?

Three rulebooks blows. I hate it.

Should I wait and try the new pelenor fields box?

Will GW wise up and release self contained BC products like they are doing with kill team?

My current collection is a few plastic box sets from the LOTR era and a mines of Moria set.

If it were me I’d wait and snag the BoPF box. I think that + battle companies book would give you everything you need to play using the two armies in the box. You may have to pick up the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit army books when they come out (though someone else would have to say when that is supposed to be).

But yeah, get the BoPF and you can play MESBG and Battle Companies.

Edit:
And I actually just remembered that the Battle Companies book has Rohan and Mordor Battle Companies in it already, so yeah, just get the starter and you’re set.

Battle Companies is an expansion for Middle-earth SBG. There will not be a new Battle Companies book containing all of the rules plus all of the profiles as it would be huge.
HUGE.

For example, the upcoming Armies of The Lord of the Rings is 260 pages and contains 269 profiles just by itself, the majority of them usable in Battle-Companies. Adding in all of the Hobbit era profiles would add another hundred or so profiles. It would simply not be possible.

That being said, you don't NEED the Armies Of books when you're _playing_, as you transcribe the profiles to your Battle Companies roster.

Also worth noting is that Adam/Jay have outright said Battle-Companies would stay in print, and possibly even see future campaign-book support!

yeah, it was future proofed, as it contains things mentions of profiles/weapons/etc that actually don't exist yet (well until next week)

Do the orcs in the starter set have the Mordor ability benefit described in the Warhammer community artcile?
I noticed they are Morranon (sp?) not Mordor orcs.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Morannon Orcs are a Mordor unit, much like Knights of Dol Guldur. Not every Mordor unit has it in the name (unless Sauron has a surname he doesn't bother to tell people about...?) Do they get the rule? Can't tell yet, without the new rulebook.

OK, another question. I perused the army book at my LGS today. I don't see an entry for Mordor orcs anywhere, scoured it twice. Any reason why?

yes indeed I found them --- and there are so many profiles in that book! It's inspiring and overwhelming at the same time but slow and steady with a collection wins the race.

I want a less costly commander for the Orcs in the starter box, something to play a low point level game with. Have to do some research there.
