This show is currently on Hulu network (never heard of it myself).
Based on Stephen Kings world around the town of Castle Rock with Shawshank featuring quite a bit.
Dark, slightly off centre, mystery ala King style but quite watchable. Good and interesting characters, plot moves along well and some nice little twists/tie ins in it.
Worth a watch if you're into slightly darker feels and plots. Currently only one season from what I can see.

Yup the wife and I are watching it. It's confusing in a good way and so far we both dig it, it'd have to really go off the rails to make me not like it at this point

Bad news KC. After they move away from the prison it definitely gets a bit waffely and loses its track and focus:(
Up to e9 now.

I have't yet watched this. I assume it references stuff from the related books, but are they just in passing, or are they actively happening in the show? ie does Carrie, Christine, Cujo, or any of the other characters from the books directly appear?

Or is this just some kind of creepy show that uses those books as background fluff?

More the latter I'd say (but I'm only about half way through.)

For instance, the show opens very much focused on Shawshank Penetentiary, and when giving the new warden the tour, it is pointed out that you can still see the bullet hole in her office when Warden Lock(?) shot himself, or that one character is named after a recurring character in King's books (but at this point isn't clear if he's actually that individual,) or one characters insistence that a dead dog is dug up to ensure "it's still dead."

I'm not intimately acquainted with King's books, but there's enough sly nods that I catch a few, and it very much feels like one of the old mini series in atmosphere, even though the events seem to be largely fresh.

Cool, I have to try watching this then. I've read pretty much every book up until he quit cocaine and his writing declined.
