They've also added a pledge level for the existing Tornado model, which I just went for.

So this is a KS for 4 blatant copies of FW aircraft and a bunch of pseudohistoricals in a completely different style to make the others less obvious?

Well, considering that the entire range of FW 'borrows' heavily from a variety of WW2 aircraft in the first place...

There is no real proper conversion, as the KS models have various weapon loadouts. You should be able to figure out some options though.

I've seen one of othese in the flesh and it's excellent. Very much the same aesthetic while being unique. If I could find a Chaos flyer I didn't hate I'd proxy one for sure.

I'd love a not-Marauder.

Maybe the Tempest Night Fighter is closest?

After scrounging through the Chaos Index I can only really figure a Xiphon Interceptor stand-in could be something I could build from one of these kits. It's the only Chaos flyer that isn't a spiked lawn-dart.

According to Chris' bio on kickstarter the only other one he has done is for bases that didn't fund, was the Tornado on a different platform?
I couldn't see any shipping info for this one, am I blind?

I thought he said it was from a prior KS, I might be wrong. I know it exists in the wild, I';ve seen it painted up.

Maybe I'm missing something important here, but a high quality 3D printed master of something that size can easily be hundreds of dollars (I had a master made for a now defunct Imperial Knight armor project and that print cost me just shy of $300 and that was a solid deal). A lot of these stretch goals are only $100-300 apart and it's funding an entire new model. The economics of this just aren't making sense to me, what with printing and then casting costs. Did I miss it somewhere and these guys already own their own SLA/DLP printer or something?
I found the original campaign which was on gofundme, $1519 raised with a $800 goal. It look slike the original master, or at least parts were done with a SLS then wings were at least done with a SLA printer.

It can cost anywhere from $100-1000 for a professional master print, the cost increase depends on size of model and who is doing the printer. A 28-32mm tends to be about $100-150 (at least when I do them for others), when I was having them done for me before I brought them in-house it was about $300.

That said with todays lower cost printers it wouldn't be unlikely that they have a SLA printer. Those can easily be done and look professional as a master on a Form2 SLA printer. They could also have an Anycubic Photon ($500) printer and do them as well on a entry hobby SLA/DLP printer. It does appear he is only paying for the 3d master through the Kickstarter, similar to how he did his gofundme. Depending on how he parts out the designs, the price could cover the resin cast with a very low margin if any. Although I'm not sure he has a printer in-house. He seems to be the designer so that means he at least doesn't have to pay the sculpting cost and essentially works for free.

I would have preferred an STL pledge and may back if anything to support new creators but will wait to see how things pan out towards the end of the campaign.

And yet it's pretty obvious here which are not-FW and which are not-WW2 and there is absolutely no way anyone can claim the not-FW ones are just a coincidence because FW designs look vaguely historical. You know, except for being all angular, obviously incapable of flight and covered in giant lasers.

Who cares if someone else wants to make models which resemble 40k models, that is most likely the intended audience. He’s not recasting, nor creating completely the same design. That’s how market designs work, just look at virtually all of our consumer products that are similar to one another (especially cellphones). I for one welcome non-FW designers that perhaps won’t raise their prices suddenly on US customers!

All that matters is, will consumers pay for it? If so, then its a good idea.

You're forgetting the First and Second Principles of GW Legal's definition of copyright: "Even vaguely approximating similar thematic elements is basically the same as robbing a thousand little old ladies." and "Except when we do it, that's fine."

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

There are probably ways to get cheaper printing - for example, our state library will print very high quality stuff for peanuts. Admittedly, you wait your turn, but still.

There's also such a thing as makerspaces etc, or maybe he's in some academic programme with subsidised access to such resources.
Also, too, he could just be using KS to get at least some funding and chip in the difference himself. Either he believes there's enough of a post-KS market for these things or he just really, really wants a couple for himself badly enough for that to be worth it.

I mean, it looks a bit sketchy but he wouldn't be the first to use KS to cover just a part of the complete cost of a project.

They're seriously using FWs imperil pilot as their scale comparison model! That is cheeky.

Yeah, these are just obvious ripoffs, with all the same design elements than the GW ones. I can't really say I approve this sort of thing.
