At this point is there any hope at all of a BFG revival?

Hope? Maybe. But it is unlikely to be anytime soon. Specialist Games seems stretched at best these days. Remember, they were talking about Adeptus Titanicus for around 2 years before its release a couple weeks back

I think the only way you'd see anything in the next few years is if it is a limited, resin based release. Given that they have talked absolutely zero about it, let alone any details, the chance of seeing a full plastic set like Titanicus would be even further out, if it comes at all.

My [BFG] post still has 0 replies, which is disappointing. I thought there'd be enough BFG players here to get some feedback.

BFG: Armada & BFG: Armada II games for PCs is the 'current' form of naval combat, inspired/informed by BFG and continues same stories & narrative. Actual tabletop BFG is a ways off sadly. Economy is not recovered from the Bush Depression so many enthusiasts, such as myself, cannot afford the products we want. Companies are still in various degrees of 'survival mode'. Which I strongly suspect is causing the trend of products being discontinued and both GW and FW doing all these "LAST CHANCE TO BUY" deals/clearances.

There are third parties out there producing interesting proxies though...

more then a hope I'd say it's a inevitability, specialist games have said a new BFG is coming, but it'll be awhile before it takes off and will initally be heresy based so everyone can use the same models

To do that is a big mistake. Kill team in my area took off like wild fire while no one has touched Titanicus. If they make the initial game that narrow, it won't sell well.

I doubt Titanicus isn't selling well enough. Everybody wants a Warlord Titan!

The reason why they go for a Heresy setting is because these types of games/models are a big investment to make. The Heresy is the perfect excuse to produce models for a single faction/race and have them used by both sides of the game.

I suspect the large inital buy in is more the reason then the narrow focus. AT isn't going to stay Heresy, the Heresy is just the inital setting so they can get out the core titans and let it fight out, Consider Necrumundia has been out for over a year now, but they STILL haven't released all the armies.

Let's assume for a moment that if they PROMISES xenos stuff right from the start we got Eldar and Orks coming.

Let's assume a once every 2 months release scheudle (a fairly swift release pace all told)

the first month we would have gotten the warlord titan and knights per normal, reavers and warhounds likewise per normal, we're in november/december now and have only just gotten the imperial titans.. then the eldar titans come out, we'll assume that the eldar line would be the Wraith Knights as their banners, with a Revanant, Phantom, and Warlock (perhaps the warlock being retconned to be the bigger warlord equivilant?) well now by time the Eldar are done, thats another 6 months, and the games a year old, then we have Orks, with stompas and 3 types of gargants... another 6 months...

and thats assuming no time in between for say weapon sprues, carapeice options etc.

seems smarter to me just to release as a Horus Heresy product first and then claim "Xenos later" since, Xenos will be later irregardless. sure some people won't buy in till their Ork and eldar or whatever armies have titans, but they'd not be buying in anyway, and at least a "Imperials and chaos at the start" stance will draw in people right at the start who might prefer a xenos army but without a promise of them coming won't be inclined to wait

this logic applies, as much if not more to BFG.

Ideally they'd do Fleet boxes with sprues that are set up to do a capital ship, a few escorts, smaller ships like the Ork Brute Ramships. This is one of those places where they can maximize buy in for making each box a one stop shop for a small fleet, an additional box to pad it out, easier to start new additional fleets for players bitten with the bug.

I doubt that's how they'll run it, however.

The Specialist Games team (Forgeworld) are working on Horus Heresy: Battlefleet Gothic which is going to be their next system release based on what has been communicated. Like AT it will focus on similiar forces at first to keep investments reasonable. If it sells similiarily well as the three other specialist systems (BB, N17, AT) there is going to be further model support and maybe later expansions into other factions or even the 40k era. Sources are visitors of FW events and an upcoming HH:BFG release was also mentioned by Atia a week ago on her blog. Sometimes in 2019 (end of the year like the others?) would be a reasonable guess at this time. It IS coming.
