Hi.

I just played gasland with some friends who are just learning the rules. It seemed fun.

But do the cars have special rules what are the insentive to use like a monstertruck or a tank? They seem slow.

Both are great for crashing right over opponents and obstacles after you ram them. Plus tanks have a bunch of HP, and can use 125 cannons with no penalty. And as you are already running Rutherford as a faction to field a tank (as long as you are following the faction rules, anyway), they get the +1 extra ammo bonus from the faction rules for things like the 125 cannon, rockets, mortars, etc.

The best is that every good post-apoc team leader should be able to roll in a monster truck.

In the test game we did the performance car won by a lot. The rest of us had not passed gate 2 when he came through gate 4, winning the death race. It had the bump me and I get to activate out of order rule. We had 2 cars each and it was just gone after he tappet it with his other car. Weapons came in rather late, so none of uss has the opertunaty to shoot at him.

None of us had any chance to interact with him, it felt rather over powered. I thought mayby there where some options we did not know about.

Gaslands is fun, but you just cannot approach it as a serious competitive game. Death-Races can be absolutely blown out by a runaway Performance Car, and Motorcycle spam can absolutely break kill-centric scenarios.

Its an amazing game, that just shows designer inexperience in terms of how easily it can be broken by that sort of gamer.

This can definitely happen. Did you have a figure 8 track ? The idea is you get the opportunity to shoot faster cars as they come back around.

Very true, and the new expansion has made it somewhat worse.
But for sensible builds it's pretty well balanced if you average scores over several scenarios.

Yeah, we did a figure 8. But lets say we began topp right on the 8, weapons unlocked at bottom left. The performance car made it to bottom left on the first dice. It was the only one who could drive at dice/gear 6. By the time it went past us we did not have weapons up. At that point we had the coise of making an you turn and try to kill it, but the performance car had only 3 activations from finish so it was no way to do it.

For the Death Race scenario, there are definitely certain builds/car types that will be stronger than others. However, the same applies to other scenarios for different cars. A super heavy armored truck with lots of weapons won't do great in a Death Race, but will be a lot stronger in an Arena of Death, for example. Not all scenarios have a waiting period before "weapons hot," and that can be a big difference.

The easiest solution we have found is to roll the scenario randomly. That performance car might do great in a race, but in a demolition derby or zombie scenario it might do very poorly.

Gaslands triggers me the same way as other miniatures games, where I have this compulsion to be attracted to the stuff others demand is useless, or at least unpopular.

In Gaslands, this means I have to be the wierdo that tries to run a monster truck in Death Races, or an Idris pickup truck with Nitrous, Expertise and Hell for Leather, and force it to try to be a performance car.

Back in the day, I was the 40k player with a Kroot Merc army, Legion of the Damned as an entire army using Chapter Approved, or Sisters of Battle.

I feel like were this a video game version you'd have a 'rough terrain' shortcut that would be murderous on anything that isn't built for off-road, and would give a pickup or monster truck some way of maybe making a victory possible.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

That's... certainly how we've run our races. Oh there are shortcuts.. But they are for the desperate

If it's a figure 8, why not just everyone stop at the intersection, blow the Performance Car up, and then continue with the race?
