Just wondering, can anyone think of anything major that would change if we changed inches to 2cm or 3cm?

No-one using the boxed game rulers would be able to play?

You’d have to rewrite every range or distance rule in the game?

Game doesn’t currently operate in metric and wouldn’t without a full rewrite. You might as well write in D10s and T20 Conscripts while you’re at it. ;-)

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

If you straight-up replaced 1" with 2cm, it would probably affect how many models in a horde can attack due to base sizes, and would also make things like disembarking noticeably weaker. Other than that, not much would change really - the game is mostly about comparative distances, not absolute ones, except where things like base size come into play.

Similarly, replacing 1" with 3cm would make horde assault stronger and disembarking easier.

If you replaced 1" with 2.5cm, the game would be essentially indistinguishable.

Epic 40K ran on cm instead of inches and did well. If anything because half cm are a lot smaller than half inches the game could benefit from a smaller unit of distance measurement. Allowing a finer level of variation to exist within things like close combat range and movement.

Of course if you changed it to cm you'd have to adjust the values for the models in terms of movement and attack range and spell ranges and such, that would be just common sense.
