Hello and welcome from a friendly painter / modeller / hobbyist in Canada!

I had never envisioned myself as a "tread head" or enthusiast of tanks; however, i did grow up building plastic models and my first was a Monogram Snap-Tite German Tiger I tank.

Although I had built a few of the Space Marine Mark 1 Rhino as they originally came three to a box when first released, the only Imperial Guard tank i had was a Chimera APC.

Here is an Imperial Guard Appendix that mentions the Armoured Company, with Leman Russ tanks as HQ as well as Elites, Troops, and Heavy choices:

This is the original plastic kit for the Leman Russ tank, catalogue photos are courtesy of Stuff Of Legends::

This is the original Imperial Guard Vehicle Accessory Sprue. Below it is a selection of pewter metal bits that were available in the plastic tank kits for a while:

There were two separate Leman Russ boxed sets sold at that time with extra pewter bits, the Demolisher and the Exterminator:

Ever since the introduction of Forge World Imperial Guard Resin Conversion Kits for the Leman Russ Battle Tank, I had always wanted to field a variety of tanks.

However, the expense of purchasing Forge World resin kits and shipping to Canada was prohibitively expensive, while as a kit-bashing / scale-modeller I had envisioned making my own conversions.

I started acquiring Leman Russs tank and extra bits in the form of used, second-hand tanks provided by a friend who originally wanted to start a Chaos renegade army but gave up.

Purchasing one Leman Russ tank kit brand-new, and taking his two used tanks into my Imperial Guard arsenal, was the start of my Leman Russ Tank Squadron!!!

The next two colour photos were taken by myself over a decade and a half ago; according to the date stamp it was August 8, 2002 .

Leman Russ battle tanks, two acquired second-hand and one purchased new:

Leman Russ Tank Squadron, after recovery work:

Games Workshop developed large-scale games involving standard 40K scale miniatures, however in line with standard battle formations, called "Apocalypse 40K".

The "Emperor's Fist Tank Company" was produced by Citadel Miniatures in respect to the Apocalpyse Formation and allowed one to collect the entire Unit in one purchase!

Thank you for the kind words, and for checking out my P&M Blog sir!

I own a copy of the Citadel Journal issue # 37 which i purchased from the Games Workshop in Vancouver B.C. Canada.

This issue included the Forge World - Imperial Armour Catalogue for Spring 2000 :

What was of particular interest to me was the Resin Conversion Kits for the Leman Russ tank :

Thank you very much Minigiant for coming in to check out this P&M Blog, and for the encouragement!

Especially since i took a ten-year hiatus from the hobby ... i moved from the city of Vancouver B.C. out to the rural Okanagan and left everything behind in 2006

Then at the end of 2015 i was able to recover several large cardboard boxes with my hobby books and miniatures; in amongst my collection was a box labelled " ARMOURED COMPANY "

I was in for a surprise as apparently I had made some changes to some of the Leman Russ tanks such as removing side sponsons, but there was more than i remember !!

One of these new vehicles included a Leman Russ conversion into a custom built Destroyer Tank Hunter or Thunderer Siege Tank :

Considering previous photos had been taken in 2002, updated photos were taken with two new additions, for a grand total of seven ( 7 ) vehicles in the Armoured Company :

Hello fellow tread - heads or tank enthusiasts! As an Imperial Guard player, I have always wanted to build a custom Leman Russ with a lower hull than the stock tank.

I was primarily influenced by British tank designs in World War II, behold the Cruiser Tank Mk VI also known as the Crusader I :

Crusader T43706

Crusader T15546

Front views:

Crusader tank in lorry camouflage

I did a Google search for " Leman Russ tank conversions " and came across a website with a hobbyist who had tried their hand at a custom Leman Russ !
Here is a photo of their Leman Russ conversion, and here is the Internet link to the website : http://mordian7th.blogspot.com/2009/06/charon-pattern-leman-russ-part-1.html

Here is a work-in-progress photo showing how i was trying to align my Leman Russ hull with a Chimera side track piece:

So back around 2012 I started collecting a couple of other armoured tanks, hoping to add some variety to the vehicles available for my Steel Legion Army.

As i mentioned before that I am a budget hobbyist, all of these vehicle kits were acquired second-hand, all on eBay :

I started recovering the Hellhound squadron, which consisted of two old-school Hellhounds with metal bits, and one Devil Dog. At the bottom right of the photo are the Leman Russ conversions.

At the top are Chimeras which I am converting to custom Taurox Prime infantry assault vehicles for my Storm Trooper Commando Force using Chapterhouse Studios - Wheeled Chimera Kits :

The Taurox Prime infantry assault vehicles have extra custom resin bits from Models and Minis !!!

About a year ago, i came across the website for a company called Zinge Industries, based out of the United Kingdom : https://www.zinge.co.uk/

They create and offer a wide range of wargames miniatures and conversion bits, not just resin; their website is very extensive.

After going through their massive offering several times, I made my first order and was impressed as it was fulfilled immediately and I received it very quickly despite international shipping to Canada!

Front of package:

Rear of package:

Everything came enveloped in bubble wrap :

Bits are packaged in zip lock baggies :

I was very pleased to discover that there was a full-colour printed catalog included with my order, free of charge! Catalog front page, inside pages, and back page :

I purchased three ( 3 ) different products from Zinge Industries.

If there's one thing about Imperial Guard I love, it's their tanks. They've got some real character and I remember how cool they looked seeing them on the regular in 5th edition (despite being horribly broken).
I like that you're adding aftermarket parts to make your company that bit more unique. Taking inspiration from WW2 is always a great thing to do for tanks!
Subbed, looking forward to seeing where you take this!

Hello and greetings Tyranid Horde! Thank you very much for coming in to check out this P&M Blog, and for the words of encouragement!

I like how the old-school Hellhound turrets had extra metal bits providing a larger, higher turret with more armour, so I modified two with I-beams to fit the new Leman Russ hull:

Gluing magnets allowed easy weapon changes / swaps, as I read that Exterminator twin autocannon are not that useful and I am hoping to acquire a Punisher Cannon.

As I add details such as Tow Cables, Stowage and various detail, the Tank Company has now expanded to a grand total of eight ( 8 ) Leman Russ tanks!

Howdy and greetings from the Great White North ValhallanWinter, thank you for taking the time to not only check out this Blog but come in and comment!

An update has been long overdue, actually three years as I entered into a new relationship with a high-maintenance female;
I thought I had poor organizational skills but then I saw her "collection" of personal cosmetics...

. . .

However I have been exceptionally busy hobby-wise during that time period especially over the fall to spring months, as I was playing Dungeons & Dragons and painting the Pre-Primed Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures with Vallejo primer, made by Wizards Of The Coast.

Now that it is the fall of 2021, time to update this Blog with the latest and greatest aftermarket or third-party bits and pieces, or at least new to me as I have searched for and read about Machinator and his wonderful productions, which can be purchased on eBay on his store "Blood and Skulls Industry"; here is a link to a Thread about his products :

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/760481.page

I will be spending more time providing a Build Thread post featuring inspiration images to Work-In-Progress photos, as I finally decided on a real-life concept; the French Char B1 :

March 1925 the prototype called the FAHM was produced:

Two different production model Char B1 Bis rear view photos convinced me that I needed to look for a larger engine compartment:

Models and Minis provided an exceptional Leman Russ cast resin Hull Extension part, however it is only compatible with the new Leman Russ tank hull as shown on their website.
It does come with two (2) separate Exhausts and even a Kit where Trench Rails can be added for a minimal cost, less than purchasing the Trench Rails separately:

Kromlech / Bits Of War from Europe produces a highly detailed "Tank Engine with Trench Rails" which can be used with any Leman Russ variant, new to old.

I acquired two (2) Forgeworld cast resin Leman Russ turrets, from the Death Korps of Krieg variant which has extra details such as air filters and power cables sculpted.

Forgeworld cast resin Death Korps of Krieg variant Leman Russ Executioner turret :

Forgeworld cast resin Death Korps of Krieg variant Leman Russ Demolisher turret :

. . .

In the meantime here is an updated picture showing a complete Armoured Company featuring three (3) Squadrons each comprising of three (3) Leman Russ tanks each, for a grand total of nine (9).

Cheers to all and thank you for coming in!

Howdy and a long-belated greetings to all from snowy cold Western Canada! Happy Lunar New Year to all and this post will be filled with luscious photos finally...

I apologize for the hiatus, however life gets in the way or even other endeavours take priority.
In any case, painting and modelling has always been a creative and enjoyable activity especially when history provides inspiration!

I have been actively ordering GW / Citadel stock plastic tank hulls and acquiring custom resin conversion bits to build my own historical recreations of beloved real-life designs.
Researching tank build threads, online posts, watching YouTube videos featuring "The Chieftain" Nicolas Moran and other documentaries, I decided to create additional armoured vehicles based on the armoured vehicle development of three major nations; France, Britain and America.

 ValhallanWinter wrote:

First, I would like to thank you ValhallanWinter for your interest and patience! To answer your question there have been three (3) completely different builds using the FAHM and Char theme as inspiration, just as the French themselves field-tested markedly visibly different designs before settling on the B1 Bis; these three can be seen in the photo above making a total of nine (9) battle tanks.

In order to keep the growing Tank Company both orderly and provide protection during transportation, I purchased three (3) Battle Foam 3" Army Trays each capable to holding six (6) Leman Russ/Chimera Tanks:

Here are the first two Squadrons of Leman Russ for a total of six (6) tanks:

Next post will be the development of the British tank squadron, for which I am awaiting cast resin conversion bits from the awesome shop at Models and Minis

Yes indeed, long time since I've seen an exterminator.

Well, truth be told, the last time I saw one was when I removed the twin autocannon from mine and replaced it with a punisher. Useless tank the exterminator

I love the belt feed you've modelled on it.

Thank you so much for dropping in all the way from Holland! Been a long time since I visited the Netherlands and sampled dried eel...

Alas the belt feed, which was fashioned from a plastic zip strap or zap strap, is gone as I too have realized the Exterminator was more fun to look at than to field.

Wishing you all the best and thank you for your comments, kind words and feedback!

Hello and happy Tuesday gaming and modelling enthusiasts! A new month and a new post, full of photos!

Scouring the Internet for additional conversion bits and kits for kitbashing Warhammer 40,000 has resulted in a plethora of manufacturers,
one of which is available on a website of 3D printed parts called Shapeways : https://www.shapeways.com/

I discovered a store called Forpost D6 which offers over a thousand different creations : https://www.shapeways.com/shops/forpost

Two of their prints provided my Armoured Company with detailed Engine Hatch Filters very similar to the Forge World cast resin counterparts, perfect for 28mm and 40K.

I received all of these 3D printed parts in excellent condition, then applied a flat black primer with Vallejo Spray paint.

Step 1: Remove the existing Engine Hatches, then prep the area with a file.

.
Step 2: Install the pre-primed Engine Hatch Filters in place with super glue.

Step 3: After allowing the glue to dry thoroughly, Citadel Chaos Black primer was brush painted such as over bare areas of plastic.

Step 4: A basecoat of Citadel Caliban Green is applied.

Step 5: Highlights were drybrushed using Citadel Gnarloc Green, an older discontinued Foundation Paint.

Step 6: Each individual tank received touch-ups and some needed complete paintjobs applied to Heavy Stubbers and a Trench Rail Kit courtesy of Blood & Skulls Industry.

There are some "musical chairs" occuring with the tanks as I moved around some hulls and turrets trying to create weapon combinations;
in addition, a Forgeworld Death Korps of Krieg Modified Ryza Executioner turret purchased on eBay was painted up.

Thank you all so much for coming in to check out the progress, and wishing everyone a wonderful week!

Howdy and happy Monday everyone, time for an update less than a week after receiving a shipment of glorious bits and kits on March 1 from Models and Minis which allowed me to continue cracking on with the rest of my historical armour development.

Models and Minis is jimbolina25 here on DakkaDakka!

And quite true to the history, the pace of evolution by country was dictated by available resources, constant research, and trial & error.

First, the French tank Squadron.

The three tanks I designed were influenced by the Char B1, Char B1 Bis, and Char B1 Ter.
With the past humiliation of the Great War behind them, the French believed in a slow, heavily armoured and armed vehicle which would operate with infantry support, and thus was born the "Infantry Tank".

Long, elongated rhomboid trench-crossing concepts with large engine compartments and smaller turrets were on the drawing board.

Second, the British tank Squadron.

Although with more resources and experience than the French, England also followed the concept of a slow, heavily armoured infantry support vehicle which was called the "Cruiser";
It was not until North Africa that tank-versus-tank battles convinced the English to adapt the "A" series in order to defeat enemy armour with better speed and greater firepower, but the progression of battle tanks proved to be obsolete as soon as they were produced.

The hull of the British tanks is the Scorpio Conversion Hull courtesy of Blood & Skulls Industry. The great man behind the company is Machinator here on DakkaDakka, and a link to his store on eBay is at the end of this post :

Third, the American tank Squadron.

With almost limitless resources and first-hand experience baptized in fire, the U.S. "M" and eventually "T" class tank designs proved to be the deciding factor in WW2.
The same chassis was used to build many variations from the Lee/Grant to the ubiquitous Sherman, and more including Tank Destroyers and Self-Propelled Artillery.

In the three photos below, you can see the initial design of the three French tanks in the top row, two American tanks in the bottom left and middle, and British tanks in the bottom right.

Huge thanks and shout-out to Models and Minis, and Blood & Skulls Industry, and Victoria Miniatures!

You'll need some proper battle boards and a loop of Def Leopard's Armageddon It and take some massed phots of all that steel- looking great!

And thank you for the links, one can never have too many bits and conversion kits resources.
