Are the unit datacards in the Krogskull Boyz set any different than what comes in the core killteam book? I bought the core killteam book and am planning to convert my lootas/burnas from boyz and nobz (I've got lots of burna bitz and will plasticard some deffguns), but I'm wondering if there are any tidbits in the box set that might make it a more appealing purchase. The tokens seem cool, but I can probably 3-D print something up that will satisfy on that front. Right now I'm leaning towards just saving my $$ for speed freeks and the ork codex.

thanks,
Coh

The faction starters have:

- A couple sprues of models (full kits, can be built however you want)
- A couple sprues of terrain.
- Data cards for the models built as specific, named characters
- A brief lore booklet that gives some backstory on for the unit on the data cards.
- A bunch of tokens, using faction colors.
- Two mission cards (one narrative, involving the faction, one matched play - in the killzone the included terrain is for)
- About a dozen tactics cards, including every tactic from the book, plus 6 or so unique tactics exclusive to the set.

Depending on what you want, it may or may not be a good deal. I would say that the extra tactics cards are not worth the price if there's nothing else you are looking for. Personally, I build the specific team they suggest and read the background booklet - it gives it a bit more of a narrative feel to the models and generally sets up the narrative mission. The terrain is nothing special, but after a few starters, it starts to add up.

Hi- just a quick general question on this. Brand new player, BTW. Actually haven't even played a match yet.

If you are running a team, like say Orks, but have not purchased the Krogskull box, are you prohibited from using the tactics that are on the cards exclusive to that box if you do not physically have those cards?

It would seem like you should be able to copy those tactics onto blanks, but I haven't been able to find an answer to that.

Thanks

Well you can use stratagems in 40k without owning any cards. Although these are presented in a book. But I don't see why you couldn't use the tactics if you have a photocopy of them. YMMV if it's an official event.

There is no mechanical reason to own the physical cards.

Check with the killteam campaign organiser.

Where I am (the UK), generally the GW run campaigns/ tournaments have insisted on the hardcopy cards being owned (i.e. to drive killteam starter box sales).

Independents and clubs will likely more lenient but you should check.
