Hi mods!
I am wondering how rule #1 work.
I was under the impression that saying something like
I'm going to come off as condescending here, but that's only because at this point I think that I'm a much better person than you are.

was definitely a breach of rule #1, but I have seen a moderator write literally that, and it was kept unedited after I reported on it, and the report was (I assume) seen, as some other mod posted in the same thread!
So I am going to ask: is this kind of phrasing a violation of rule #1? Would I suffer sanctions if I used similar phrasing, or not? Is it context-dependent? Is it dependent on being a mod or not being a mod? Is this something that is currently in discussion in the mods forum and I should just wait before I get some form of answer?

Maybe this is a violation, but the minor kind that just gets you a "polite warning" without a post edit or sanction?
Very curious about it.
Thanks .

To be fair, I know the mod in question pretty well. He really is better than most people.

I’m cool with it, personally.

Context matters, and dude in your quote had just been called lazy and biased(by extension) by a poster rudely fiending for a politics thread like Tyrone Biggums fiending for crack, but it wasn’t nearly as funny. It started to look like some sort of breakdown, and the thread was locked. Dude pushed and pushed and pushed and got a reaction, feth him.

I witnessed the Extended-Ultimate-Directors-Unrated Cut version of that post and they were both warranted.

#TeamLorek

And lets be honest, you don’t need clarification, you’re just trying to stir up some gak.

Poster in question was constantly pushing, pushing, pushing, with his backhanded insults towards various others throughout as people didn't accept his stance. Constantly repeating the same thing isn't going to win you favors.

I wouldn't worry about it. Pretty much all humans think they are better than someone else in some way. It's part of our nature.

Most people don't state this sort of thing; writing it down means a different thing entirely.

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

I've just supported the Permanent European Union Citizenship initiative. Please do the same and spread the word!

I'm pretty sure that the official stance in DakkaDakka is that if someone is trolling/behaving badly/not following the rules, you should press the Report button AND NOT ANSWER IN KIND.
If "but the guy deserved it" become an official defense for rule #1 violation, I would love to be explicitly told about it.

Also, as a clarification, I received the same "Rule #1 violation" ding that anyone else gets. I can't use the Quick Reply for a few days.

There are repercussions.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
