The Emperor is still alive. But has this ever been in question? Particularly to people who have read certain books? Such as Talon of Horus by ADB and Throneworld by Guy Haley. Throneworld shows an Eldar Harlequin sensing the Emperor's power and him holding back Chaos (she laughed at Slaanesh, but the Emperor filled her with dread). And Talon of Horus shows the Emperor creating his Angels of fire from the Astronomican.

Heretical types like to troll the faithful with phrases like "corpse god" but decent, upright, correct-thinking people all know that the Emperor is very much alive and well and, well, strapped into the Golden Throne, projecting His Divine Light out through the worthwhile parts of the galaxy.

Guy Haley's Dark Imperium reconfirms he is alive. But ADB's Talon of Horus and Throneworld from the Beast Arises (also by Guy Haley) confirm that.



And Erebus in False Gods said the Emperor wants to be a god, but would you honestly trust Erebus? Especially when Horus did not believe him, and neither did Magnus? Magnus was there telling Horus not to listen to Erebus.

From our 3rd party narator perspective, we know he's alive.
From in universe, there's relatively few people who can know it for sure (sure, Gulliman said so, but other than him and the custodes no-one was there, and who actually even meets the primarch?)

A lot of renegades may genuinely believe he is nothing more than a corpse plugged into a lighthouse. They're wrong, but they may believe it.
