Sword & Brush is basically a yearly painting contest run here in Toronto that acts as both a showcase of local (and hopefully international eventually) talent that also functions as a Crystal Brush qualifier. Gold/Silver/Bronze/Certificates are awarded for models that are scored against a competition standard, not podium, so a category can have multiple Golds, Silvers, Bronzes, and Certificates.

I am one of the organisers and judges for this event and the tournaments/games that are also run for the weekend, so I figured I'd submit a few entries for fun. Preface, I did not judge my own entries (we had a panel of 6 judges, including myself, that we were able to rotate around so that the judges could submit entries without issue for judging).

I won Bronze for my Tomb Sentinel, which after speaking with the judges (more so they came to speak with me lol), the bland basing cost me the Silver (which is why moar Scarabs are required!!)

I entered my Yu Jing Imperial Service into Sci-fi/Fantasy unit, which won a Gold and also won the Best Infinity trophy.

I entered my Gaius Julius Caesar bust into Historical, wihch also won a gold (and came close to winning Best Historical).

And lastely, I entered my Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the XIII Legion into Sci-fi/Fantasy, which won a Gold and won the Best Wargaming Model trophy as well.

Guilliman looks incredible, insanely incredible even.

Great stuff all over, but Guillimans cloak alone knocks it out of the park.

Great work! How long have you been painting?

It goes to show that submitting to painting contests & tournys is a great way to build community & motivation to paint!

It definitely is! I love that you get so many artists together sharing and critiquing each other, and it's always welcome to see just how many different ways there are to paint a miniature, and to see take techniques used in one medium (say, historicals) and apply it to another (sci-fi/fantasy).

I've been painting since I was 11, so about 20 years now.

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.
