Very interested in this. Does anyone know if it takes place in the same setting as Frostgrave?

Doesn’t sound like it will have its own miniature line but will be supported with further supplements.

I look forward to picking this up in POD format! If you take a look at the most recent post on my blog link in the sig, this could have special relevance for my group right now!

Ut has a different setting from Frostgrave (officially), but will use a lot of the same creatures.

Hiding behind terrain

I'll keep an eye out.

Ive got the Frostgrave book, its 5 expansions and the ulterior motives deck and enjoyed them.

Interested.

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.
That's what it says: A horrible person...
We weren't even testing for that.

I understand the desire to drive traffic to your blog, but it is bad form to use forum posts as nothing but free advertising. You should at least be polite enough to write a few sentences here about the game.

Quality posting is what makes a good forum.

Quote:
”... Rangers of Shadow Deep is designed to be played either solo or co-operatively, with up to 4 players all taking on the roles of rangers. Also, while the game is still very much a table-top miniature game, it takes one more step in the direction of role-playing. Each player creates their own ranger, choosing from a host of different abilities, skills, and spells.
...
Every ranger also has companions, the number of which will vary depending on the number of players, but these too will have their own abilities and skills. Once the players have created their rangers, they can start playing missions. Each mission is like a mini-campaign and consists of two or more scenarios.
...
Each area/scenario gives the rangers the opportunity to find clues as to the resting place of an ancient artifact.”

This type of cooperative "Not Board, Not Role-Playing, Not War gaming" seems to be on the rise lately. I have no idea what this is called as a genre, maybe a Dungeon Crawler?

Personally, I thought the solo-campaign for Frostgrave was pretty neat and always welcome more solo-gaming opportunities.

Sounds like a promising game. I'll definitely follow along and see if it's something for my collection. A co-op game that still allows for tactical minis combat would be awesome. Especially with a 9-scenario adventure in the main rules.

As long as there's no secret information that would spoil a replay, the concept of tackling the main adventure in any scenario order sounds intruiging, especially if a success of the main rules could lead to other adventures being published.

Generally not a big fan of Frostgrave, but I might give this a try. Co-op and quasi-dungeon crawl is more my style. Also with so much Frostgrave under Joe's belt, I'd imagine this'll be a little better finished/interesting.

Shadowgrave. I'll wait for an easier to get print version tho, and a few dedicated minis are always nice

Definitely do so! Skirmish games are my new favorite, especially ones that edge toward having RPG elements.

More information would be great, especially around what sort of playing surface the game uses and what sort of models we would need for the initial campaign so that we can start to prepare.

Sounds cool. I'm really interested in co-op stuff. Enjoyed your Frostgrave work, so will definitely give this a look.

I've been looking for a system like this for a while now. Sounds super interesting. Plus I love rangers!

One main thing I'd like to know is if the gameplay is meant to be on preset gridded maps for each scenario of the quests, or if it's open terrain with measurements (because I like building terrain).

Looking forward to more information, this sounds pitched right at the level that would work for my group (Gloomhaven is too much commitment, Frostgrave seems to be too much of a wargame).

Hey Guys,

Many thanks for all of the support and kind words so far. I just posted a blog today about creating a ranger for those who want more information.

This will be perfect to play with the kids! I have a lot of unused fantasy stuff gathered over the years.

This looks like a perfect game for me !!!

Rangers are my favorite literary and D&D character class, I prefer skirmish and co-op games, and I enjoy Frostgrave.

How soon is "coming soon" ?

Excellent, will be watching this closely.

As an aside, you really need to link up this, Frostrave and Oathmark into a single fantasy world. You've got a way of weaving a sense of place even with just a few sentences and I can imagine this and Frostgrave existing in the same world.

Will the missions be set overland, in dungeons/caves, or both? Please tell me both. I really want solo/co-op dungeon crawling to be built into the core game!
