So ffg have actually come out now and basically said they're just as surprised as we are at the app... but how? Did nobody in the office open it once? Wu happan?

Also why is it online only? Seriously, at this point there is no reason to use their official app over the fan made apps.

Edit: app just updated and even with me adding what I own I can only select 3 ships to add to my squad.

I have had my say about it already and don't want to rant more for fear the sodium levels will explode my brain but with the adding of ships issue, do you have the correct game mode entered in? There are three different types.

I just pressed second edition because that was the only one working yesterday for me. Hahah... butneven then... takes a good 10 or 20 seconds to add a single ship. On 1.0 battle scribe I would just price 8 tie fighters in the same amount of time.

Yeah it sucks, I find battlescribe to be a bit of a pain as well and much prefer;
https://raithos.github.io
For second and;

http://geordanr.github.io
For first edition.

Both are upto date and show all info when mousing over cards.

You want Extended game mode to be able to use all the ships. 2nd edition just includes the Core set stuff and the first wave of expansions. It would have been nice of FFG to actually explain all this a little better. The app is definitely improving and is now verging on usable but the UI is still really clunky, which I fear may be just how it is from now on as that's a fairly fundamental design decision and not so easy to change at this stage.

The main issue with it is it does not appear to be designed in any way to be used as a gameplay tool. They just want you to build your list and then sort all the cards to actually play the game.

It doesn't seem to work without an internet connection... and cards don't have points costs... this is the first miniatures game I've ever seen that requires an active internet connection to play... what is this, Diablo 3?

The only work arounds are to download the PDFs which include all the ship options and point values or better yet use a different squad builder, one that actually includes all the points, makes sure that they are right, allows you to add and remove ships at whim etc. etc.

Looks like the app may finally be stable now - it’s certainly a lot better than it was at initial release (for one, don’t see any cards anymore with the <italics> tags...).

It is still annoying that the upgrade icons aren’t on the cards*, nor the points. I’m thinking of buying some small round stickers and printing out a batch of icons to stick onto the cards.

BTW, are there official PDFs with the options and points on FFG’s site somewhere?

* Which, was because of the errata issue with the Jumpmaster, I’m sure.

Lol.

Nearing usable?

What sort of hackneyed baloney is FFG selling these days?

I knew as soon as I read about it that the app would be total BS. Time is the judge of all things and I think it's pretty clear now that FFG is losing their licensing. Why else would they drive the game into the dirt and then relaunch it if not to make good on the closing years of their contract? Why wouldn't anyone at FFG have tested the app at launch? Because no one cares about the product since it's the last kick at the can, and a very half hearted one at that.

Just look at the last year or two of FFG as a whole. First they lose their GW license, then they lose Netrunner. Does the writing on the wall have to be in neon all-caps before we clue in? They even had us rotating our Netrunner sets ffs and sold us an updated core kit before pulling the plug with zero warning.

And all this is a damn shame and I feel really silly for espousing the virtues of FFG as purveyors of a quality, lasting product. I personally led a game club in the crusade for X-Wing supremacy, convinced dozens of people to buy in. Now their models are worth less than the cardboard they came with and people can't even use the official app? Capitalism is a damn tyrant.

I personally find it hilarious that while FFG is pissing off customers left and right, GW is turning their image around and gaining momentum with rulesets a quarter of the mass of their old ones.

Sorry to come in here and slag your game fella's but FFG deserves nothing less than total abandonment in a dirt crusted alleyway for the crap they're pulling now. On the other hand, I feel like 1st edition players stand a very good chance to keep their game groups intact and continue to enjoy the game we all fell in love with. Perhaps sans the Harpoon Missiles...

Whilst I agree with you about the absurdity of them not testing their app (apparently the next version 1.03 is about to go live) in advance, or apparently at all, and I also agree with you about harpoons sadly the rest of what you wrote is nonsense/conjecture/BS. If they were that close to going pop (and as they are owned by Asmodee now that aint happening) or loosing their license they would not have invested the time nor money into V2 let alone expand upon it with delving into the CW period and factions.

The change to V2 has been handled pretty poorly in many ways and has ruffled many a feather but it was absolutely necessary after all the power creep and increased complexity from wave 10 or so onwards, 'poons were bad, TLT was worse, infinite regen, repositioning at PS11, PS11 coordinate, FSR shenanigans, the massive clusterfeth with the JM5K and it disappearing slots etc. etc. etc. Where the game had got so stale that you could basically write 14 of the top 16 lists from major tournaments before a game had been played and bar outliers a whole faction and the majority of ships were never seen (like T-65 x-wings) change was absolutely required.

I wish that FFG had got the community more involved with the app as rather than pay loads of money to a Polish company to get it so badly wrong they could have just payed some of the people who had worked so long for free to do a great job first time, just like YASB has. But you cant put an egg back in its shell all we can do is whinge.

Whilst I'm not quite at Darkcloaks level of tin-foil theory I'm very much on a wait and see mindset with X-Wing at the moment, edition changes tend to cause saltiness in the player base, some valid some not so much, I'm currently only in for a starter and Rebel kit and not sure if any of the other local players have picked anything uip, I'll give it a few months and make the ditch or not choice then

Is there a playerbase that isn't salty at the moment? I'd totally play that game if there was.

Ok...

We've been running out of tables in the X-Wing section at one of our weekly nights, ever since the new edition has dropped. We've seen such an influx of old players and new alike, it's incredible. Have we been dunked in the Kool-Aid that much?

An no one uses the app. We just use YASB 2.0 and we're very hapy with it. We'll probably port our tourney lists in the various formats to make it simpler, but for casual games, YASB is perfect.

This, so much. I haven't heard a single person complain about the actual game, just the peripherals and our tournament this weekend sold out twice over.

Mathieu, you have been demoted? You are no longer the best bush pilot?
