Hey guys,

Starting up my Grey knights army - completely mind-boggled by the multitude of options for a grey knights strike squad - and the fact I currently don't own the codex its quite difficult making my own judgement:

Grey knights strike squad: Whats best? Whats the difference?

* Grey Knight Interceptor Squad
* Grey Knight Purifier Squad
* Grey Knight Purgation Squad.

Cheers guys, I usually prefer to take my time and paint 'squads' individually before purchasing an army - have quite high standards when it comes to modelling/painting!

Interceptors and regular Strikes. Strike squad fills troop slots so you'll want at least three. Get falchions for everyone. If you really want special weapons psilencer is only worthy one right now. Stormbolters and deepstrike are their best asset. Same advice goes for interceptors, but insteas of deepstrike they can start on the table and teleport shunt ahead.

Purifiers are really bad. Purgation squads can work. Again, psilencers.

Upcoming Chapter Approved might change some things, but regular strikes with falchions are your best bet as of now.

Fueli is spot on. You might want to magnetize the packs, so you can swap between interceptor and strike, but either way, double falchions is the way to go. A 10-man strike squad using the strat can drop in and shoot 40 S5 -1 shots. That's a really nice, take-all-comers profile.

Awesome, just what I wanted to hear.

So to clarify, only difference between interceptor/strike is the backpacks? I'll get those magnetised!

I'll take psilencer, ignore incinerator and other weapon choices

Demon-hammer/warding stave worth taking?

Falchions better than force halberd/force sword?

Sadly none of the options are truly good for their cost but yes, as it stands:

1. Falchions are the best of the free weapons because +1 attacks is better than +1 strength or -1 AP. They're better than the Hammer, too, for this unit and the majority of targets but that at least has niche uses

2. Stormbolters are the best weapons, if you really want to take a special weapon then the Psilencer is the least bad choice, but honestly it's only marginally better than a Stormbolter and only in a few niche cases, and you have to give up melee weapons to carry it so...

The best Strike Squad right now is all Stormbolters and Falchions, no specials.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

Terms of modelling, I'll include one psilencer - have a couple with falchions but mostly the force sword/halberd (because it just looks damn awesome, taking me back to my DOW dark crusade grey knights units)

So the demonhammer/stave not even worth considering?

The hammer is good against certain targets but it costs a lot and has a penalty to hit. So against the vast majority of targets, i.e. the hordes of infantry where multi damage, high AP, high strength is pointless, it's actually the worst weapon.

IMO they're best taken on WS 2+ characters to make up for the -1 to hit, they'll have many attacks to better take advantage of it and you can go send an Apothecary or Brother Captain to try to smash some tanks without a care - while your troops you typically want taking objectives.

For reasonably priced hammering I suggest apothecaries with Hammer. They are nice little solo units that can punch well.

I have 20 PAGK, and 15 Terminators. They are all magnetized at both shoulders, allowing for many different weapon choices. The Terminators are also magnetized at the right wrist. I didn't do the backpacks for the PAGK, but I can probably pull them off and do it later.

My son says I have a magnetization addiction, but I can quit any time.
