Greetins, fellow wargamers!

I have a question regarding how deployment works in Stronghold Assault missions, which can be found in the latest Chapter Approved book (dated 2017).

The rule is that "After the battlefield has been created, the Defender sets up their army wholly within their deployment zone. The Attacker then sets up their army wholly within their deployment zone.".

My question is that wether the "wholly within" condition means that you can not use the alternative deployment options of certain units (Teleportarium for Terminators, for example), or you can still deploy units with their special rules outside of your deployment zone.

I hope my question makes sense. Thanks in advance!

You have permission via the units special rules to deploy them elsewhere, and the mission doesn't override that (by default, in this case anyway). If it did then you'd not be able to use those special rules in ANY mission, since even the Matched Play ones state "A player’s models must be set up wholly within their deployment zone."

And, to address the inevitable chorus of people who will say "But what about...", this is a case of special rule overriding a more general one. It's the same as having a flamer automatically hit, thus it doesn't roll to hit as demanded by the rulebook.

Not sure there’ll be the ‘chorus’ you think. You’re entirely correct without looking for potential whataboutisms to poke fun at.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
