I played with my Legion of Azgorh with Nurgle allies army this weekend at a tournament and did pretty well, going 1-2 however should won first game, I just forgot to bring in my Gutrot Spume/5 Blightking allies in my first turn. While I got BullCentaur Renders as battleline since I had Shartor as my general, and I got the sweet Black Hammer of Hashut for my Taurukā€¦.. I'm wondering if a generic Chaos ability of potential +1 to hits in combat is more advantageous? If the general is within 12" and uses the Lord of War trait, then the roll is on a 5+ instead of a 6+. Potentially a 1/3 of the army could be rolling +1 to hits in combat if played right.

The Legion of Azgorh allegiance ability is that all the units ignore the first wound in each shooting and combat phase. That's pretty good. However, they are limited on allies, and because of their limited mobility, I found that having Gutrot and BLightkings were awesome at gaining some control of the enemy backfield and doing some decent damage. That got me thinking, if I had the Chaos allegiance I could use my Gutter runners too, and some other good units.

Generally speaking for the lesser of the Chaos allegiances, is the +1 to hit chance worth taking a more miscellaneous variety of units? Any thoughts?

Well your concept of an army would change and you are not playing legions of azgorh at that point. So this is really comparing 2 completely different army concepts.

You can make a rather special mix and combos and run it under chaos and be successful. I am certain that can be done. And the allegiance ability on a 5+ can make a difference when played out well. But when going down that road, how long before the entire legion of azgorh is replaced by more functional units adapting ever more to the new units you are adding?

In any case you would have to take over 400 pts of something else then azgorh to be allowed to take the generic allegiance as per FAQ.

The legion ability to ignore the first wound is waaaay better than a 1 in 6 chance at maybe getting 16% more hits in. Only time I'd say grand alliance would be better is a double hellcanon comp with lord of war. 2+ to hit doing 2D6 mortal wounds is terrifying from across the board and not requiring line of sight.
