2nd delivered a while back got all my goodies and some excellent models in there. Just backed this. Great models to paint as well.

Summoned Golems from the far future? More obviously Horizon Wars, Epic and derivatives like Future War Commander, Polyversal, Battletech, Mech Attack. Most 6-15mm playrers are less fussy about sources of models than 40k and these can fit in most small scale sci-fi games.

In the Starter Set, what is the Initiative Deck, and what is it used for?

Is the game played on a hex grid, or with rulers?

Thanks!

So they're like GW Dreadnought sized? That's a pretty zany deal at currently 44 models for $100.

Also, it looks like this is the third KS for CAV (the first one done by Reaper got around $180K, then they passed it off to Talon Games, and they only got about $60K). Llamahead above alluded to the fact that the second KS might have been nicer figures... Was it a big difference?

Shame Talon Games can't send out a note via Reaper Bone's account, letting folks know of this cool new KS.

That aircraft expansion looks awesome. Is there any way to buy the aircraft from the second campaign, either through retail or this third campaign?

I just pinged Cavboss on the KS page, and they aren't planning on adding figures from their previous campaigns to this one.

Unfortunately, I'm at work, and can't check their online store so I don't know what's available now at retail.

Their newer models for this third KS look super cool - a lot of the tanks and such from the second KS (Talon Game's first KS, after the Reaper Bones CAV I KS) just looked like slightly different takes on modern tanks. I'm really liking how the new ones look!

The larger ones are actually about that size Yes. and its an excellent deal.

Yes and no. Basically the first kickstarter had a couple of models designed before the material was properly understood so the second was better. Equally any models from the first kickstarter are still perfectly good.

Sadly the Aircraft from this one have been withdrawn as well as the terrain for 2 far more focussed campaigns later on. As has been said on the latest update. If your US based both https://talon.games/collections/cav-strike-ops-miniatures-plastic have them on the website. Oddly enough they aren't available on the Reaper UK website yet.

The new aircraft (the Ghast and Vindicator, the ones that got taken down for now) are super cool looking. It looks like those aren't available on the website (I see Tsuiseki, Kraken, Dragonfly and Lynx aircraft...)

I really like the design of these currently being KS'd models compared to what's available now (though some are pretty excellent too!)

Are the currently available 10mm foot soldiers also in plastic, or are those metal? I didn't see them in the previous KSs (edit: they're metal)

Okay, so can anyone explain the basics of CAV? Like...

How many models per player? Why so many classes? Are they specific loadouts only or is there a make-your-own-mech builder? Are there factions? Do they get different models?

From what I've pieced together...

It looks like you play with 5-10 models per side (but it looks like it scales up OK to bigger numbers), divided up into squadrons

Combat is 2d6 plus modifiers, the amount by which you beat the target number adjusts the damage you do (roll high, more likely to do lots of damage, I think?)

Mechs and (most?) units have a damage chart that looks very similar to the old click-base mechwarrior game (this is what really sells it for me!) so that stats degrade as units take damage

Looks like there are a lot of factions (or maybe just a few? More than 4-5?). I don't know the difference between factions, but I reckon there are some.

Looks like units have a set stat card. Does anyone know if you can upgrade or change these stats with add ons? I don't know anything about customizing units, but I think (?) there are rules for building your own mechs.

Greetings All! CAVBoss from Talon Games here. Sorry for the belated reply but I had missed this thread earlier...so let me answer what I can so far.

KS2 was fulfilled last April and ALL (aircraft included) of the models from KS1 and KS2 are available through retail and our own site at www.talon.games

We are learning how to use this type of plastic better so yes the models have gotten better, with the plastic mix we will be using for the third KS the best yet! If you have or get a chance to see the Enforcer CAV we did, that is what we are using on all these new models. Thats not to say the earlier ones are bad, we are just improvong on a already great product!

We are holding back on the previewed terrain and aircraft. By doing so it lets us squeeze the stretch goals down a bit and get more models in. If we get to some higher numbers we can see about bringing them back in. If not, we will be setting up a campaign focused on them very soon.

Reaper UK will be stocking our line, they are still working out the bugs there and hopefully that will be happening right after the end of this campaign.

The game is ruler-based and we use playing cards to determine activation order. Most game run 8-10 models per side with a 2 hour run time. It is squad based with 4-6 models per squad. Bigger battles scale up pretty good to allow mass carnage! You can customize/build your own if you want and there are 7 factions + pirates/mercs etc. Factions each have their own model group but you can mix and match if you want to be a merc for example. All factions get faction doctrine bonuses if they stay "In-house." Just an FYI 1st edition CAV came out before Clicky-tech but yes we do use a sliding damage track system (I saw the other day on a FB page someone had designed a track disk to use for the game, though normally we just use a d12 to track damage...no dots!)

Im sure Ive missed some but ask away, I will make sure and monitor this thread!

Best

No. CAV is no longer part of Reaper, just Talon Games. We ran our first KS under their auspices (I worked there for a long time and helped with CAV 1st edition) and they still help us out from time to time with distribution but thats it. TY!

No, they aren't dreadnought sized, they are generally slightly bigger than Battletech Mechs (if that helps). Most of them are smaller than a SM Centurion, but the largest ones can be pretty beefy in height and girth. THey don't get as big as dreads, but the biggest can get to Meganob size in height with bigger guns. The smallest are smaller than a standard Space Marine, and skinnier.

Without including base, most CAV figures run about 40mm to 55 mm tall.
