Hey guys I had a question. So detachments cannot use the Imperium, Aeldari, or Chaos keyword for the faction, but they can use Adeptus Astartes. So I was thinking of having a mixed adeptus astartes detachment. I can vaguely remember reading something on this topic before, but I cannot remember the answer to the following question. If you have a detachment made up of say a SPACE WOLVES character, a DARK ANGELS character and a DEATHWATCH veteran do you unlock the stratagems for each faction? I know you wouldn't get their chapter tactics, but what about the stratagems?

Check the line in your codex about stratagems. It's not about the units in it, it's about the type of detachment you have. So, if you have a Supreme Command Detachment made of a character from each of those three codexes, you'll have to say whether it's a Space Wolf, Dark Angel, or Deathwatch detachment. At that point, you'll only have access to that codex's stratagems.

The reason it works for folks like Dark Eldar is that if a single codex has multiple sub-groups (like how Iron Hands, Ultramarines, and Imperial Fists all share the same codex), then having an Ultramarine, Imperial Fist, or Iron Hands detachment still unlocks all the stratagems in that codex, regardless of whether or not you have an Ultramarine, Imperial Fist, or Iron Hand model in them. It's just that the vast majority of Stratagems also specifically target a unit or model with that faction keyword, but not all!

In your example, if you want to have the stratagems from each of those three factions, since each is a distinct faction with its own distinct codex, you'll need a detachment of each faction to unlock their stratagems. Not just one of each model in a single shared detachment.

You don't unlock stratagems. The rules for stratagems require you to have a pure detachment. It defines what that detachment is in the codex, and a mixed detachment does not fit that criteria.

Ah ok so say if I wanted to go with a patrol detachment and feature a space wolves and dark angel librarian + some random troop choice, I'd have to pick what specific faction that detachment is so if I picked Space Wolves then it counts as a space wolves detachment thus it gains space wolves stratagems, but not the stratagems for dark angels. Or do mixed detachments mean no stratagems at all?

Mixed detachments means no stratagems at all, other than the ones found in the BRB of course.
