First off, a quick disclaimer. My painting is only probably only what most would consider tabletop quality. I can paint in the lines (mostly), use washes, add highlights and blend colours. I'm also getting the hang of using a drybrush. I like to keep my models more or less as they were intended to be, so conversions are rare. So with that out of the way, if you're still reading, here's a little background on my association with Nurgle.

I first got started with 40k when I was around 10 years old, so around 1995. I was moved onto Warhammer Fantasy just before 3rd edition started, or at least before the new box set came out, so some time in 1998. During that time I built up small collections of Blood Angels, Orks and Eldar. The Chaos factions were always somewhat of a mystery to me, way beyond my painting abilities of the time, and too much for my meagre budget. Plague Marines were the models that always stood out to me, and I still remember them on the shelves of my local Games Workshop store. They looked so much cooler, and way more disgusting than any of the other chaos models I noticed at the time. Anyway, point being, I liked the look of them, but never got any. I was out of WHFB and onto LOTR by the early 2000's, and done with that a year or two later. Fast forward to Spring 2017, and I download a Gaunt's Ghosts book while looking for something to read. Holy s**t, my mind is blown at how nostalgic I feel for the Imperial Guard (another faction I thought looked cool, but was outside of my budget). I get on Ebay and buy up some Cadian Shock Troopers. The hobby snowballs from here, and before I know it, I'm collecting Guard and Ad Mech, a totally new faction to me. 8th Edition comes around with Dark Imperium, and there's new sspace marines about a third taller than my lowly Blood Angels, and of course, new Plague Marines!!

Before I know it, I've got my own Dark Imperium box, and plenty of other Death Guard models off Ebay. (I've also at this point built a small Crimson Fists Primaris force, yay 2nd edition rulebook cover). I get the paints out, paint up an entire one and a half plague marines, then realise that I'm not actually having much fun painting them. Into the box they all go, and I plod along painting up more Imperial forces.

Fast forward to June 2018, and I've suddenly got the urge to paint Death Guard and Nurgle Daemons again (I'm not even sure why, probably some Black Library book I've read). So here I am, It's September, I'm motivated, and I've completed 32 models for my warband.

Currently painted I have:

20 Plaguebearers
Spoiler:

8 Poxwalkers
Spoiler:

3 Plague Marines
Spoiler:

1 Lord of Contagion
Spoiler:

During my newfound motivation I've added quite a few new models to my force. In hand I now have the following to paint.

As of 25/09/18

90 Cultists
40 Plaguebearers
6 Plaguedrones
6 Nurgling bases
2 Heralds of Nurgle
26 Plague Marines
88 Poxwalkers
10 or so Death Guard characters (More Lords of Contagion, Plaguecasters and Blightbringers).

I don't know how long this will take to complete, or for that matter if I ever will, as I intend to add further to this warband, and also have signed up to Conquest which provide me with plenty more Death Guard models. The purpose of this blog is just to track my journey on this. I'll try to update this with progress, even if it's just a one liner each time I slap some paint on a Nurgle model.

Shame you picked the wrong God, but your minis are superb regardless.

Very crisp paintjobs on all, not what I expect from Nurgle but suitably Nurgley! Good job and good luck with your project!

Some further work on the horde today. I've been experimenting with various GW green base colours for some Nurgle cultists.

I've finished one of the guys, and based and washed another 4.These guys are taking longer than I thought they would, although that's because I'm using multiple different shades of green on each model to try and make them more rag tag and less uniform.

More work done today on the Warband.

I've completed Lord Felthius, a plasma Death Guard marine, and another cultist.

Spoiler:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Once I've completed another couple of models I'll get the PVA glue and sand out again to base them. The reason I've gone for a sand base is because I eventually intend to use them in a campaign set on a desert planet.

I've not had as much time as I'd have liked to paint today, but I've put some base colours on Foetid Bloat Drone, a Myphitic Blight Hauler, and a Plague Marine sergeant (as well as the first wash on him).

Further work today, I've now finished on the Myphitic Blight Hauler. It's pretty dull outside so I'm going to have to stop an hour before I usually would.

I really like the blight haulers, they're a neat little set. Yours turned out very well, the organic looking colors of the missiles are nice.

The MBH looks great, I am a big fan of the model as it is quite different to most other things in most armies.

What colours are you using for the pale flesh? It looks suitably bloated and rank.

Thanks guys, appreciate the time you take to look and comment.

The flesh was a base of Rakarth Flesh. Douse that in Druchii Violet. Hit the edges that meet non-organic material with Carrouberg Crimson. Then layer again with Rakarth Flesh, highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh. After that, one final watered down Druchii Violet coat wash just to stop the highlights from being too bright.

Your blight hauler is looking good, the flesh you've painted really sets it off.

It all looks great, the variety of green shades is very nice. I like the poxwalkers best so far as you've really brought out their facial expressions.

I've done some more today on some smaller units again. I've spent the last few hours slapping paint on Cultists, Plaguebearers and Poxwalkers. I've managed to finish (minus basing) another 4 models. 3 Poxwalkers and another Cultist.

I've finished that member of the Tainted Cohort today. I've also started feeling a little jaded painting up nothing but Nurgley stuff for the past few months so I'm going to take a few weeks off from Nurgle and paint a few other things.

Here's my last Death Guard model for a while:

I decided to have a go at the painting challenge for the first time this month as I had recently put together the contents of a Start Collecting Nurgle Daemons box.

A small amount of progress today, no finished models, but I put 42 Poxwalkers on my painting table and started to work on them. I think I'll need another session with the whole lot of them, then I'll be in a position to start doing the small details on models and finishing them off.

Not much to look at, but here's the progress. Lots of metal and bone painted, which will all need washes:
