Let's say you want to get hyped for painting/building your new army (or adding units to existing), what movie do you put on to get the juices flowing?

For example, what screams Deathwatch better than Aliens, especially with the Corvus style drop ship and purging xenos!

Histoire d'O, then Hellraiser immediately after.

For my Renegades I either whack on Soviet Storm, which is a documentary, not a movie, or the Red Army Choir, which is music.

Battle of Sevastopol or Zvezda, at a pinch. Blokada if I'm feeling really dark.

For my CSM/Death Guard army: the Heavy Metal animated movie (from the 80's)

The floaty Orb of doom and the WWII bomber story in particular are just amazing. The corruption (and regenerative) powers of the Orb seemed so Nurgly to me.

And I've unofficially adopted the battle cry of the orb sludge mutants from the last story into my own Warband.

"Death.... Death! DEATH TO ALL THAT OPPOSE US!"

My Ork army is: Mad Max Fury Road. I nearly grew tusks and turned green while watching it the first time.

Anyway, any 40k fans should probably check out those two flicks.

Scions/Deathwatch: Any modern military movie focusing on Special Forces.

No idea what I would watch for Blood Angels and Custodes.

Don't even want to know what I should watch for Dark Eldar.

Mad Max: Fury Road. And boy oh boy oh boy oh boy am I excited about later this month DDDD

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

The movie equivalent of GK is Heaven's Gate. Not that it should inspire only that it should warn you of your future with GK.

(The movie was the biggest bust in Hollywood history for those who don't know.)

My list is inspired by Apocalypse Now - with Kroot as the Montagnards. If I need inspiration I can always put on the soundtrack which is still pretty cool after all these years.

Cloverfield.

Except there are two monsters; Mortarion and Magnus. These guys destroy everything they go through, everyone is in a panic to deal with them, and there are other creatures running around sowing additional confusion.

Blood Angels, so definitely Aliens.

Sisters of Battle - The Messenger: Joan of Arc, Kingdom of Heaven (This would obviously be just as good [if not better] for anyone working on Black Templars. But all the holy warriors, talk of faith, and crusading is pretty delicious creative-fodder.), The Young Pope (just for it's lavish catholic aesthetics that help inspire the ecclesiarchy vibe, and heavy faith/guilt overtones), Dune

Penal Guard (in my SoB Imperial soup force) - Alien 3, Suicide Squad, Starship Troopers, Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (video game)

GSC - The Thing, Alien movies, Dead Space (video game), Doom (video game)

40k in general - Mad Max: Fury Road, as above posters have said. Pretty much just required viewing.
Dune - i mean, come on. it's SO 40k
Alien 3, i think also has a general 40k vibe to it, you can honestly see the dingy industrial planet and its inhabitants being a random backwater prisoner world in the imperium. it's basically a movie about penal guard looking for faith in the God Emperor as they fight a rogue Tyranid

Bonus:
Emperor's Children - Repo: The Genetic Opera ("self-improvement" of the flesh... and leather), Mandy, Hellraiser, also Fury Road (war music, and i plan to have lots of bikers)
This is a future project i haven't started yet, but the ideas are already there thanks to these movies

Dark Eldar = Hellraiser

They even have the cube on a Heamonculus, they come out of No where (like the warp) are gods of torture and can do it forevery like the Haemonculus can, they modify they bodies, etc.. etc...

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

My Guard, if I can include TV, I'd say a mix of Starship Troopers and the planetary missions from Star Trek for the Guardsmen, Fury for the tanks, and the Scions, as I'm primarily using them in Kill Team, would probably be close to the Enterprise scenes with the M.A.C.O.s

None, but the closest in mood I guess would be maybe The Seventh Seal?

"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. My guard: Police procedrual + Dominion Tank Police + You're Under Arrest. (My IG are a Tank Equipped Navy Provost unit, defending a Navy installation/city)

My Guard Kill Team: Heist movies in general, though I'm currently leaning towards the Star Wars ones (Rogue One/Solo). (Unit is a squad of Abhumans who steal military equipment, I gave them all tails).

You could use the same as my Kill teams for my Blood Ravens (Death Watch), as it's an Acquisition force.

Lamenters: Don't have one yet, haven't thought of it, though All Quiet on the Western Front, and Glory would be good choices.

Iyanden: Escaflone, Cowboy Bebob, Evangelion are all good choices.
