I've been kicking around on the Bolter and Chainsword for many years, but thought I'd branch out a little, especially in light of recent server issues.

I long held a fondness for the III legion since the old days of Rogue Trader. The Index Astartes article prompted me to get back in to 40k in the early 2000's. I was struck by the tragic nature of the fall of Emperor's Children, gone was the notion they were all Noise Marines in a riot of contrasting colours that were difficult to represent on the tabletop. Then the Horus Heresy books came along, and how could I not love the Fulgrim novel, a tragic fall from grace. I actually liked the ending – it is now a bit anti-climax given Fulgrim escaped the painting… but that is for another post.

I’ve recently upped sticks from the UK and ended up in Oz; this has seen a re-kindling of my interest in GW after break of well over a decade! I couldn't bear parting with my 40K EC's and after pondering it for a while, but I have finally got around starting a pre-heresy force of the glorious III Legion.

I am basing it before the events of Istvaan, so it is whilst the legion was still loyal, however I will add in some specific traitor units whilst keeping the bulk ‘either way’ in appearance. I also think it will be fun to convert up some of the characters. I am much more of a painter than a gamer, so shall probably concentrate of what I want to paint, as opposed to what I ‘should’ paint!

My initial thoughts were to base it around Marius Vairosean’s third company ( I just liked his grumpiness!), but as mentioned about by swopping the Captain/Command it can easily be another company, such as Solomon Demeter’s Second….. well that was my initial aim some two years ago -- i've come a little way from there.......

I've got to the stage now where I am running out of steam, I wouldn't say I've lost interest but i've certainly lost a lot of my mojo - I've got pretty much a demi company of 50 footslogging marines done (20man tactical squad, 10 plasma support squad, 10 man Mk2 tactical squad -with 5 more in the works, 10 veterans), a couple of half done assault marine squads. I am looking to tidy up the half finished projects before moving on - so many half done things, including a bike command squad, converted jet bike squad and Thunderhawk!!. I certainly think the glut of stuff i've churned through has killed the enjoyment - but I really have lacked focus with the army build. At least now it will have a solid core of an army.

Hopefully I'll get my act together before any 40k Emperor's Children rear their heads...

Welcome to Dakka! Great looking Emperors Children, I particularly like the jetbikes, those white stripes are awesome. Loving the old school landspeeder as well

Keeping motivated with a big army is always a challenge, I suffered the same fate with my Thousand Sons. The trick is just to set yourself lots of goals and make sure you stick to them. Heck, I told myself I had to get a whole army painted in a month and managed it with a bit of helpful bullying from some people on Dakka!

Love the look of these guys. The stripes really set them off. I've always liked pre-heresy Emp's Children. Bit of a Saul Tarvitz fan myself, the whole loyalist defence of Isstvan has some excellent lore.
Keep it up, there are plenty of us here to push you on!

Veteran Sgt

Wanted to include this guy as the detailing really says pre Heresy EC! Blinged up with eagles!! Slight conversion with a new powerfist and shoulder pads!

Standard Bearer

The flashiest smoothest bad boys in M.31 need to anounce their presence for all to see!

Missile Launcher

Always been a fan of the Old Skool missile launcher!

Marines

Emperors Children had a traditional of using the blades of vanquished enemies in honour of a worthy foe!

I originally built the first veterans when they had the furious charge skill. Now they can be weapon masters. This one is just a standard imperial power sword!

I thought I'd use a Necron blade here, to represent some form of exotic Xenos weapon take during some compliance campaign....

The Eldar may have taken his arm... but the foul Xenos was vanquished and the blade taken as a prize

Thanks for the kind welcome! The stripes caused issues, I did them too thick initially, wiping out the transition between pink n purple. Luckily I found thinner tamiya tape the second time round!! I couldn't resist the speeders - scoured eVay for them prior to the Heresy Era soeeder being announced! I've got another 3 in the works!!
