As the title says, my son and I are looking at AOS. We have a mix of WHF models and we've had some games with old models and the Getting Started magazine/AOS App, but I'd like to take the plunge with the newer models/factions. I'm interested in Stormcasts, while my son is interested in Khorne (he plays Flesh Tearers in 40K...) My FLGS has some of the 1st Edition Box Sets for about 100 CAD.

Would that be a decent way to get going over the holidays?

sounds like you want both armies that are in the starter, so I would definately say yes! especially the "big" one.

1st ed starter set is really good value for money. I have been having a good time painting the stormcast up for my armies on parade board. Really easy to get good result with the gold and blue scheme imo.
The khorne side is great too, although the blood reavers can be a chore.

GW starter set models are so good now so they are always worth getting imo!
Go for it!

Thanks for the advice! I was worried that edition change might be an issue, but now I can take the plunge. Looks like I have my Christmas project.

Just going to echo other people's sentiment: it's a good value. I ended up buying two boxes during its run and now have a decent Stormcast and Khorne army I have expanded.

Update- picked up the box set and set it aside for Christmas. I also saw that little starter set from 1st Ed and picked it up on a whim. My son and I had fun building and then fighting out the little "campaign" to whet our appetite. I understand that AOS has been very divisive, but I appreciate their effort to make the game accessible. Two teens could split that starter for under and get a taste for a very low entry cost.

Warm regards,
