Aeldari Deployment

Archon Ventis Tenebris

Standing just inside the ruin of a human structure, in the shadow of a crumbling pillar Archon Ventis Tenebris of the Kabal of the Night's Caress surveyed the hunting ground arrayed before him. The Mon'keigh had brought their hulking war machines and a swarm of their childish soldiers. They moved over the landscape, slow and clumsy, preparing for an engagement that they didn't even realise had already started.

Watching the Mon'keigh Knight wobble and clank across the plain like a toy robot Ventis couldn't help but conclude that a certain Farseer of Iyanden was plotting against him. The Kabal of the Night's Caress had been - persuaded, he grimaced at the memory - to come to this world at the behest of the Ynarri, a message brought by one of the dying Craftworld's emissaries. When they arrived they had found the Mon'Keigh forces far vaster than they had been told.

The grimace on Ventis' face twisted into a smile. His small Kabal of hand-selected warriors would not have been able to win these battles alone, but with some assistance that was a different matter. Glancing at his own forces Ventis could barely see them, blending into the surrounding foliage much as his shadowfield encased him in the darkness behind the pillar. A handful of rangers, allies he had made in Commoragh and a pair of psykers, trained in fieldcraft had taken position overlooking the enemy force. Meanwhile, The Kabal itself lurked in the webway poised to strike at the most opportune moment.

Ventis heard a heavy tread behind him and his smile became a grin, his brother's menagerie had arrived and the hunt was on.

Spoiler:
3 Ravagers and 2 Raiders in Deep Strike (-5 CP), the raiders each contain a unit of Trueborn and a unit of Kabalite Warriors. Other units deployed as depicted on the deployment map.

Imperial Deployment

Major Horatio Vaughn, 5th Umbran Rifles

"Get your asses moving, boys." Major Vaughn shouted, pointing to the position the mortar teams were to take. "We might have some aid from House Glyndwr, but that doesn't mean you aren't needed." Surveying the battlefield he shook his head, nothing obvious out there, just more of the same old ruined buildings and encroaching vegetation. If the water pipes that led to the city didn't run through here it wouldn't even be worth defending, but they did and it was.

Vaughn grumbled internally as he surveyed his company setting up their defensive position, the damned knife ears were around here somewhere, he just knew it. The pattern of attacks over the last few days seemed to point an arrow at just this spot. That was the problem, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was a trap, somehow he was walking into enemy territory not 50 miles from an Imperial city.

He'd set up solidly, he was sure. The large Knight Castellan and Armigers positioned to be protected by a line of infantry, whilst the mortar teams remained out of sight. His Junior officers were spread throughout the line to keep the troops in order and the small number of auxilia from the Adeptus Ministorum were... well doing whatever the hell they did. He tried not to think about them too much. Just as the last mortar fell into position a roar shrieked across the battlefield and Vaughn saw a strange group of twisted abominations lumbering towards his line. Battle was joined.
Spoiler:
Blood Angels Captain deep strikes, everything else sets up as per the deployment map. Death visions of Sanguinius is used on the Captain.

First Turn
Aeldari gets the First Turn. Imperial Player uses Prepared Positions

Aeldari Turn 1
CP: 9
Objectives: Defend Objective 3, Secure Objective 4, Secure Objective 5

Ventis Tenebris considered his options, how to direct this hunt for souls. After a moments reflection, he requested the Haemonculi take several key locations, near the water pumps the Mon'keigh so valued, to draw them from their defensive posture. Eager to taste the fear of his foes Ventis himself dashed forward in the shade of one of his brother's taloi, running forward in a shadowed blur, his blaster ready to fire.

Salintar Tenebris, Ancient Haemonculus of the Coven of Flesh Reborn took his brother's suggestion on board. He signalled to his acothysts to hold the more minor locations, whilst he personally took his grotesquerie and pain engines to the centre of the field. Looking at the hulking war machine of the Mon'Keigh Salintar licked his lips in anticipation of the wave of despair that would come when the behemoth fell.

Movement Phase Summary
Spoiler:

A unit of wracks advances to take Objective 4. The Grotesques advance onto Objective 2. Both Taloi move normally, bringing their guns into range. Urien and the Haemonculus advance, boosting the Grotesques, Taloi and the Wracks on Objective 4. The Archon advances to behind the rightmost Talos. Everything else remains still.

Seer Beratoth looked calmly across the battlefield, feeling the winds of chance and gently tugging on them, guiding the smallest of the Imperial warmachines to stumble, catching its foot on a concealed pipe. His apprentice assists, refining the choice and causing the pilot to look up at just the wrong moment.

Salintar laughs, seeing the Mon'Keigh Warmachine stumble and maliciously orders his Taloi to capture it. The flash an hum of haywire blasters echoes across the field, stunning the vehicle and entrapping it's occupant inside the canopy, easy pickings for after the battle.

Psychic Phase Summary
Spoiler:
Jinx and Doom are cast on the nearest Sentinel. Jinx uses a CP reroll to go off.
Shooting Phase Summary
Spoiler:
The first Talos fires at the Doomed sentinel, getting 6 shots with Haywire Blasters. 3 hit, but only one wounds even with rerolls. The Sentinel fails its save and takes 2 wounds (one normal, one mortal). The second talos also gets 6 shot and 3 hits. It scores 2 wounds, one on a 5 and one on a 6. The sentinel fails both saves and is destroyed, taking 5 more wounds (2 normal, 3 mortal)! It fails to explode and gives up First Blood. The company commander in the ruin loses 3 wounds to shooting from the snipers opposite.

End of Aeldari Turn 1

Aeldari Points Scored: First Blood, Secure Objective 4

Objectives Discarded: Secure Objective 5

Objectives held: Defend Objective 8

Aeldari CP Remaining: 8

Score: Aeldari 2; Imperium 0

Imperium Turn 1
CP: 15
Objectives: Secure Objective 6, No Prisoners, Secure Objective 3

The strange beasts of the enemy came on fast, pounding across the field and paralysing one of his Sentinels, but Major Vaughn was undaunted. "Close off their access to that damn pipe." He ordered, poitning towards a group of monsters lurking near the access to the city's precious water. Lifting a vox caster he messaged Owain Glyndwr, riding high in his Castellan "We need to push the right flank Owain, can you assist."

From his perch high above the battle, Owain received Vaughn's message, he narrowed his eyes, his shaggy red hair falling from under his Knights connection cap. The Major had a point, that flank contained alot of valuable access points and if the enemy were to poison the city, that would likely be where they would strike. "Acknowledged, Vaughn." He replied, then ordered his Vassal, piloting a Warglaive to advance.

Movement Phase Summary
Spoiler:
The scout sentinels and warglaive move to threaten the Wracks on Objective 4, nothing else moves.
Vaughn voxed his second in command holding the right flank. "Clear those filthy monsters off the access pipes!" he orders, curtly. Watching with pride as the lasfire and mortars open up, hammering into the enemy ranks in perfect concordance with a rain of death from the Helverin. Looking to his own flank Vaughn snapped to the Mortar teams nearby "Destroy those monsters at the front, let Glyndwr take the Pain Engines." A rain of death began with his mortars pounding the ground that the twisted abominations where crossing. Vaughn smiled tightly, confident in the power of his artillery. A smile that became a look of horror when the smoke cleared and the abominations continued forward.

Owain Glyndwr targetted the nearest of the enemy Pain Engines, this was his first time seeing one, but it looked small and weak, barely larger than an Astra Militarum Sentinel. He released the safety on his custom Plasma Decimator, pouring a rain of energy onto the beast, a rain of energy that didn't even slow it. With a thought matching the anger expressed on his face Owain sent his Shieldbreaker Missiles smashing into the target. The beast floats to the side, nearly avoiding the missiles and Owain is forced to manually override the targeter to force one to gain a solid hit. Still not enough to stop the monster "I'm going to tear you apart, creature." He hissed in unison with the housing sliding open on his Volcano cannon. Titan killing shots poured down on the monster as it advanced towards the Imperial lines, the volcano cannon pouring forth fire along lines traced out by the four siegebreaker cannons the shots converging and raining down on the small, fleshy monster like the fury of the Emperor himself. Owain was stunned when the mist made from torn pieces of the battlefield settled and, still, the Talos came on.

Shooting Phase Summary
Spoiler:
The first Helverin fires, getting 8 shots, but only hitting the wracks on objective 3 with one. This kills one Wrack. The second Helverin gets 6 shots, scoring 4 hits and 3 wounds, but only killing one more Wrack due to their invulns.

The first infantry squad with Reroll to Wound wipes out the rest of the Wrack unit using its mortar. It also kills 2 of the Wracks protecting Objective 4 with lasgun fire. The next infantry squad finishes off the Wracks on Objective 4. The third and fourth infantry squads deal no wounds to the Grotesques. The fifth infantry squad kills a Wrack on objective 6 with the mortar. The sixth fails to do anything.

With 39 shots the Mortar Teams manage to deal 2 wounds to a Grotesque. The Sentinels pick off another Wrack from objective 6. The Warglaive fires its Thermal Spear at the closest Talos, but is stopped by its invulnerable save. The Castellan fires everything at the closest Talos. Cawls Wrath fails to do anything, the Shield Breakers do 3 damage but use a CP on a reroll. The Volcano Cannon gets 2 wounding hits, one is stopped by the invulnerable save, the Talos rerolls the other save with a CP reroll, but fails again, taking 4 damage, managing to stop one with Feel no Pain. The two Twin Siegebreaker get 5 shots, 4 hits, but only one wound. This is stopped by the invulnerable save and the Talos LIVES!!!

End of Imperial Turn 1

Imperial Points Scored: No Prisoners

Objectives Discarded: Secure Objective 6

Objectives held: Secure Objective 3

Aeldari CP Remaining: 7
