Well, probably the biggest night in UFC history marred by a near riot and a fighter being jumped by 2-3 members of the other fighters corner. I haven’t seen anything like it.

Shame, because it was a great card. Even the prelims were good, with nary a stinker. Joe Rogan was near to tears, Dana White was flabber gasted. Its going to be an interesting next couple days in MMA news.

Even Mike Tyson said it was out of control. Thats next level.

Fight and Post fight antics:

Khabib Nurmagomedov scored an incredible victory in what many considered the biggest fight in the history of mixed martial arts, and then immediately marred what should have been his crowning moment.

The UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov finished the sport’s biggest star, Conor McGregor, retaining his belt via submission at 3:03 of the fourth round of his UFC 229 main event on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

But a wild scene broke out after the fight, in which Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage and attacked McGregor teammate Dillon Danis. In the ensuing madness, one of Nurmagomedov’s teammates punched McGregor inside the cage.

Things came dangerously close to getting completely out of contol. After security finally managed to get a lid on things, UFC president Dana White refused to put the belt on Nurmagomedov, citing safety concerns.

The performance marred what was unquestionably the finest performance in the career of one of the greatest fighters MMA has ever seen. The now 27-0 Dagestan native entered the bout the winner all 10 of his previous UFC fights. The big question heading into the bout was how his style, in which he essentially mauls his opponents like an angry mama bear protecting her cubs, would fare against McGregor’s striking.

Nurmagomedov dictated the pace from the get-go. He took McGregor down early, and although he didn’t do much with his advantage, he stayed atop McGregor for the rest of the round and wore him down.

In the second round, though, he did a tremendous amount of damage to the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ. Nurmagomedov dropped McGregor with a right, and soon thereafter took McGregor to the mat and then unleashed a ruthless assault in what was likely a 10-8 round. McGregor, however, weathered the storm, partially through questionable moves like fence grabs and an illegal knee to the head, and got back to his feet before the round was out.

By the third, it appeared that Nurmagomedov was starting to slow down. And McGregor, although tired, picked up the pace, landing with his left hand, and counter rights, to the head and the body, as well as kicks to maintain distance, McGregor likely won the third round.

But Nurmagomedov, who never sat on his stool between rounds, got back into gear in the fourth, and this time he got the job done. McGregor tapped to a rear-naked choke, making all four of his career MMA losses come by way of submission.

There were no postfight interviews after the Octagon following all the madness.

Nurmagomedov earned his ninth career submission victory and his 17th win via finish overall. McGregor, who was fighting in an MMA bout for the first time since his Nov. 2016 win over Eddie Alvarez, dropped to 21-4 and had a two-fight win streak snapped.

I guess it sets the stage for the next biggest fight in UFC history!

Well. McGregor got his head kicked in, so not a total loss.

It was, overall, an excellent night of fights.

Didn't think much of the fight TBH, but I'm not into wrestling (which is basically what it was).

I thought the Ferguson match was fething brilliant.

Ya, Ferguson v. Pettis was a bloodbath.

But Ferguson didn’t look like a world beater. Granted, he came back extremely fast after a devastating injury, but if he brings that sloppiness to the cage versus the grind of Khabib (if he doesn’t get deported/Suspended/removed from UFC) or Mcgregors precision, he’ll get starched.

The main fight wasn't anything special (I don't watch tons of UFC, just a couple events every six months). The Preaux(?) fight was the only hugely snoozefest of the evening.

Based on what I saw (which isn't much, tbf), I wouldnt say he got jumped by 2-3 guys, because Khabib started gak basically as soon as the bout was rung in. That is. . . it was Khabib who instigated with motions to McGregor's corner, and THEN he jumped the fence to go after them, not McGregor's peeps starting stuff

I was referring to how Connor was jumped by 2-3 people while Khabib was swinging away at Connors corner. They were the only ones arrested, because of that, and thats what set the Connor fans in the crowd off, causing a near riot.

Here’s some footage at link:

In the meantime, here’s Ozzy Man’s Opinion (because he’s hilarious, but caution: its 11 minutes!):

Only 1 bad fight that night.

Black Beast and Ferguson fights were both really good.

I am really shocked about the post main event madeness though. Even more by the responsce by UFC management. Khabib shouldn't have jumped out of the ring but there were actual crimes allowed to take place well before that. Conor basically threatened Khabibs family and said he was going to murder Khabib outside of the ring. IMO that kind of speak should get you banned from UFC. Really though what do you expect people to do when you insult them when they are full of adrenaline? Now UFC is taking a hardline on Khabib jumping out of the ring and trying to fight a trained jujitsu fighter who was egging Khabib on...Give me a break. Very disappointed by that ending. In the end we know UFC will support Conor because he makes them a lot of money - they let him get away with a lot worse IMO.

As I have been burning out over the years on UFC, I was impressed with the action Saturday night. And honestly I loved the chaos at the end and wish that would happen more often. And UFC is going to act like they are shocked and this behavior is unacceptable and bla bla bla, but they will capitalize on it and you'll see plenty of the footage leading up to the rematch. It only helps to sell more tickets.

I not a fan of either Khabib or McGregor, but I was happy to see McGregor lose, just from the whole ridiculous bus episode. Many people like his style and how he acts but I think its embarrassing. I doubt he wins the rematch either. Khabib is way ahead of him on the ground and it was obvious that if not saved by the bell in each of the first 3 rounds that McGregor would have been too exhausted to go on for much longer. Playing defense against a better wrestler is going to exhaust anyone.

Conor really was unable to have success boxing with Khabib. Khabib easily landed the best punch of the match (I think in round 2) where he knocked Mcgregor to the ground.

Ahh. . .yeah, I hadn't seen footage beyond Khabib scaling the fence/attacking connor's coaching crew, so hadn't seen Connor getting sucker punched (by the first bloke) and then attacked by another shortly after. . . I dunno if its a thing, but I think maybe the win ought to be vacated and maybe Khabib suspended/barred from competition in UFC.

It probably goes to show that allowing fighters to keep a small zoo in their 'corner' instead of a single cornerman is a dumb move

they should also invest in some nice electrified razor wire on the top of the cage so climbing in or out of it is likely to cause the person attempting it serious damage

This.
Also, Connor and Co full-on started this whole fracas with a heaping handful of help from management. Connor pulls some shady stuff, gets away with it, does some outright hooliganism, gets a slap on the wrist and continues running his mouth with some nasty stuff. Connor looses, his circus pops off at the mouth with more bile and you get what you get. Khabib has been shown repeatedly that this is ok by receiving it and ConnorCo getting away with it. Then everyone acts shocked when dude acts in the same manner.

But...let's be honest. Does anyone not think this is just more fuel for the advertising and propaganda? It's the very reason Connor is so successful and the reason they always half-heartedly stop guys from scrapping at weigh-ins etc.

The "fake" outrage is just to cover their butts, but this kind of stuff generates buzz.

EDIT: Imagine if these guys fought again...you see what I mean? All of the video highlights and press leading up to a rematch, etc. It would generate even more money - it's all part of the PR machine.
