I hear you should not leave home without these in your list. So, I just want to get people's input on how they work to make sure I got it right.

XV8 has shield generator and a shield drone. The XV8 is hit and wounded by a weapon that has a stat line of -3AP and D6 Damage. XV8 fails the invulnerable 4+save, I roll 2+ to pass the wound to the drone. Drone then 'suffers a mortal wound instead of taking the normal damage'.

Does this mean the drone take to mortal wound and I roll once for the 5+ Feel No Pain safe. Or does the drone take the mortal wound, the opponent for a D6 for the damage and then I have roll one Feel No Pain for each damage ? If it is the first scenario, then I can see where shield drones can be useful. If the later, then why take the drone, cause chances of a drone surviving multiple Feel No Pain rolls from a single weapon are slim.

It's the first - you intercept the wound. Then it says that you take all the damage and convert it to a single mortal wound.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

The shield drones will convert how ever much damage that shot did into a single mortal wound. So a D6 becomes 1 mortal wound. If two shots pass through to drones, each doing d6 damage, it becomes 2 mortal wounds.

The XV8 would not get to roll invulnerable save if you decided to try and take Savior Protocols.

Example:

The crisis suit gets hit by a lascanon -> to wound roll -> savior protocols.

If you fail the 2+ roll on savior protocols you can make the regular save for the crisis suit.

If you make a successful savior protocol roll, the shield drone gets one (1) mortal wound. It doesn't matter whether the attack would cause 1 Dmg or 6 Dmg, it is allways one (1) mortal wound. The shield drone still has it's 5+ FnP. So on 5+ nothing happens afterwarts.

Oh wait yep, I didn't pay close enough attention to the question.
