Had a single genestealer go missing during lunch last tournament. Probably a kid with sticky fingers.

Not too worried, since I have a ton of them, but annoying..

Not once. Helped that finnish tournament scenes are rather small where pretty much everybody is kniown by 2nd hand at least(ie if you don't know somebody you know somebody who knows him) probably.

I am however expert at forgetting stuff at tournaments so often enough I end up picking something back when I go there next time And dice pile keeps shrinking steadily but then again I still have like bazillion of them. My mentality with dices is if there's even slight doubt we got dices mixed my opponent gets them.

One of my long distance buddies borrowed my loyal 32 for an event and they came back the loyal 30 afterwards. He found them somewhere random in his stuff after getting home and is mailing them back to me.

I put models that die directly back into my case to avoid such an issue. Helps keep people honest when the temptation is taken away.

Once. The free Aenur model you got with WD when I was having my intro game of Mordheim in GW. He was drying on the painting table and got nicked.

Never got a replacement from the staff and it put me off playing Mordheim. I know it sounds silly, but it totally did.

Went to a 64 man tournament two weeks ago and not one instance of model theft.

Lots and lots of mixed up dice though - who knew that 20+ people used the same dice or near enough, twas a really confusing weekend for that!

After a club event for new players, I couldn't find two of my Necron Lychguard models. I didn't think they were stolen, though, just misplaced.

Two weeks or so later I was having a game at a friend's place (he arranged the club event and provided the terrain for it) and we are moving some models to a ruin with two off the walls missing, but an intact ceiling.

My friend notices something loose inside the ruin and lo! The two missing Lychguard are there, hiding! They were primed black so were extremely difficult to see...

Never had any theft experiences myself; though I have to say that from reading around in general I've never really read of any major thefts from events from the actual attendees of an event. I've heard more stories of "car broken into cases stolen" type affairs. Ergo someone from outside the hobby making a grab at stuff (often not actually wanting models and likely hoping that those cases held more valuable stuff like cameras, laptops, guns etc..)

This right here. Never keep your model cases in view of your car if they are made of plastic. They look VERY similar to power tool cases/camera protection cases and will be stolen by a opportunistic thief.
The same goes for the bags or cardboard cases too - people think they are condole/laptop bags and they will be scoused as well.

The whole reason this is done (where I'm from anyway) is because its easy to pawn those items for cash, as my area does have a noticeable problem of people stealing to fund a drug habit.

Yep, the worst thing is that often models get dumped because their second hand value is low already once assembled and painted and pawnshops and the like don't really want them. Their only value is in a very niche market and they are slow to sell so many stolen armies like that get dumped.

Not stolen, but close. Some idiot tried to walk off with my unpacked model cases while I was setting up for a game, yeeeears ago. When I confronted him, the fool didn't give up, trying to pass off they were his until I showed him my name was clearly marked on the container (I use fishing tackle boxes marked with sharpies - in at least 3 different locations after this incident, including one on the inside of the case somewhere).

Got him ejected from the Con, whoever he was as I had about 3 witnesses - opponent, his friend and my wife. Afterward I found out that he was suspected in at least three other incidents of disappearing models from that weekend.

But that was the only incident in over 30 years of gaming. I've even had an incident where a friend accidentally left some models under a game table and someone who'd seen him playing chased him down to return them to him.

It never ends well

Thankfully not. I generally only play with mates in any case.

I did once in a GW store notice a young child taking interest in my very small DA collection. Me and a mate asked if he and Dad who was with him wanted to play as they both looked interested. We had a very small game of 5th ed, that is how long ago it was, and they both really enjoyed.

Long story short, I gave the kid my DA minis to get him started, a devastator squad, tac squad and a chaplain.

TLDR, yes I have left a store lighter on models - by my own choice.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I've known more stories of people going to some lengths to return models to their owners than of people stealing at events.

Sadly, several of my friends have had models stolen in home robberies though. Often, it seems like the same issue of the cases looking like camera cases and so on.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Worst thing I've seen was at a local game store (that is sadly closed now). Some guys noticed some of their models missing and a couple people said they saw some young guys around the table who then left. When the guys went outside they found the models thrown on the ground and broken to the point of no repair. They didn't want to keep the models, they just wanted to do something "criminal" I guess.

Dude. That's one of the coolest things I've ever heard. That would have made my childhood as a kid. That kid will be a DA fan for life, "the army picks the player" and all that

@Shuppet - Thanks. It was its own reward really as he left the store a very happy chap.

@Vector Strike - Yeah, I wasn't too sad to part with them. I don't do covert Chaos I am all about the overt bat gack mental Chaos [insert Chaos DA meme] : )

Anyway, back on topic.

I was playing in a 2 on 2 match many years ago and someone else at the club insisted I borrow their Ragnar model to replace my conversion. They left before the game ended and I never saw them again.

This is my fear. Every single one of my Ork boyz requires love and effort. They're not pro painted I just am slow painter... so would hate for them to go missing.

Don't worry, absolutely nobody is stealing Ork boyz with middling paint jobs

People don't just steal for value. Sometimes they do it maliciously.

That is SOMETHING man, a crime with intent to destroy a mans passion, his dreams.

Note: If you have no patience to watch through the entire video, or you missed it, the entire house was smashed up, but nothing else in the house was stolen, just the Lego's. He was only gone 2 hours, for a walk.

have lost several models over the years, mostly an ork boy here, a dire avenger there, and some tac marines or devistators. usually at my FLGS where they have a lot of kids running aroudn and watch the games. probably only like 5-10 models over the last half decade though, so not supper worried abtou it, I do try to keep track of them though and now tell kids sure they can look at models but one at a time to handle them.

I've had scatter dice stolen before, but I genuinely think it was by mistake.
So the scatter dice I had left, I painted the targets red so I could easily point out they were mine.

According to another video there's at least a nice end to this story

But yeah theft like that is really really nasty.
