I know Warcradle Studios picked up their existing franchises when Spartan Games went under, but I can find no mention of what happened to Halo: Ground Command. Does anyone know what the status of this IP is? Do we know if anyone is still working to bring it to life, or did 343i/Microsoft just let the dream die with Spartan Games?

I don't believe Warcradle was able to purchase the licenses for the Halo IP.

So 343i just dropped the idea?

Or no-one was able to afford the licence.

Yeah, Warcradle did not acquire the Halo license along with all the other Spartan assets; they've mentioned this in their forums/blogs when it all happened.

Far as I'm aware the licence wasn't even put for sale, I think MS/whoever managed it for the Halo Franchise just took the licence straight back. A huge shame as it was a very solid release from Spartan that could have gone further (they certainly matured in how they put together the space fleet side of things).

That said sometimes big licenses can be a deathtrap to small companies not ready to deal with the big market swings they can bring (eg BIG uptake but slow retention of players and big spikes linked to outside influences - eg new game releases - as opposed to things they can time in-house).

I can't recall what happened to the moulds and the like - WC said they got a huge pallet of stuff dumped on them (almost quite literally from what they've said) so it might be it was all just dumped in there (as WC bought pretty much everything); or they were destroyed (couldn't be sold by the Administrators and thus stock was just dumped as it had no value); or was taken back.

Whatever happened I think its a dead duck that will stay dead unless another studio takes up the licence chance - which I'd expect them to do their own models for.

Halo is also a very limited IP and is currently mismanaged
