I'm planning to spend $100 on Orks today. My question is if I should get a Morkanaut or 6 Killa Kans. I already have 3 Kans and 3 Deff Dreads for my walker army with enough Boyz to make a full list.

You should wait for the codex.. then buy some dice

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Yeah for the love of god don't buy Orks today that's completely insane.

Both are terribad and will probably be terribad in the codex.

If you don't have the prerequisite 180 boyz already, buy 180 boyz off ebay.

It all depends on this: essentially, if your employee will write a decent codex after all these years, Mr. Rountree.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

I'd wait until the codex is out and you've had a chance to read it over before you drop any cash. Decide on whether Orks are for you, and which models and units you'd like to have or play.

Mmmm... if it were me, I'd wait a few weeks for the new models to drop. Those Buggies look good, and I'd hate to feel like I spent too soon.

If I had money to burn and had to spend it on Ork models, I would get a Morkanaut. Not because it's good, but because it stands out on a table.

I'd go with an orkanaut over kans, just because it's a funner model, and you already have kans.

Nobody reads any more, eh?

By the fact that you're wanting to spend today rather than waiting for the Codex I'm going to assume that you're not overly bothered about the (massively over-represented on forums) competitive side of the hobby so I'm going to side with the Morkanaut, 'cause you already have Kans.

The Fall of Kronstaat IV

Волшебная Сказка | Volshebnaya Skazka | A Fairy Tale (updated 29/12/19, ep10 - And All That Could Have Been)
Kabal of The Violet Heart (updated 02/02/2020)

If your main priority is just building/painting something you think would be a cool addition to your collection then... well you probably shouldn't be asking strangers on the internet how to use that money. If you care at all about potentially using your choice on the tabletop you want to be waiting like 2-3 weeks for the codex.

I was mostly just trying to see what the general thoughts were about the gork/morkanaut and how they compared with the kans. I'm not too concerned about being competitive, but I don't want something I'll be frustrated with either. My relative inexperience with 40k (I've played fantasy for 25 years) perhaps kept me from realizing that things might change dramatically with the new codex. In the end I bought the big walker as I'm sure it will at least function as a good fire magnet and it looks cool.

Good idea to recommend to buy boyz when in 2 weeks they are nerfed to death

I was going to agree with the others and say wait for and get the Codex. In 40L codex releases can change quite a bit within a faction, such as varying what weapons they can and cannot take or what combinations of weapons are legal to take (eg for units that might have more than one weapon choice). So often what is best to get near a codex release (which we likely will see in only 7 days time now) is nothing and then get the codex. Even if you're not being competitive it at least lets you know what the new status is for most things.

THAT SAID I'd say if you had to get something then the big Morkanaught is a very good choice! Big purchases like that are always good even just for the fun of building and painting such a big model. You might clean up the parts and hold off assembly until next weekend when you can get the codex so you can check out the loadout of the mode and what is best to build; unless you're going to go with magnets for weapon options and thus you're more free to just leap into building.

Also remember the month of a new codex dropping will often come with a huge number of people saying its the best ever and an equal number saying its the worst ever. It generally takes a little bit for everyone to settle down and for actual gameplay results to start feeding into provide a more comprehensive and faithful overview.

Not got the 'naught myself, do fancy one though, or possibly two as one of anything seems to die a lot faster than one of two does.

possibly hold on actually building the bits to decide which flavour it will be though, currently my pref is the Mork for the KFF but worth seeing if and how that changes.

have three dreads and three kans here, the kans don't get out much but the dreads have been solid in every game so far, largely as a distraction but when they do make it to combat "Mr Crunch" has enjoyed himself with a range of battle tanks and the "Burnie Twins" and done likewise on a couple of occasions, the idea of a larger one to help them out appeals a lot.

though the model does look a bit like a wardrobe...

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."
