For years I have wanted to return to 40k. Last I played the Tyranids and Tau was 2006. Last I played the Necrons was 2009. And ever since, Ive always wanted to come back, just didnt have the time.

I heard about Kill Team, the minimal investment, and the quick play. So I jumped in pretty quick. I bought the Deathwatch starter box and I bought a pack of 7 Death Guard marines, and then a small snapon box of the pox.

I need a take all comers list for both armies. So I can glue the models together. I have come across what I found to be a pretty balanced DW army, Ill post what I found. This is just a copy and paste from another thread.

Sergeant 16 Storm Shield 3 Power Maul 2 (Leader)
Gunner 16 Infernus Bolter 3 (Heavy)
Veteran 14 HTH 5 (Combat)
Veteran 14 Combi-Plasma 4 Power Sword 2 (Sniper)
Gunner 16 Frag Cannon 5 (Fireteam)

I think I like this list. Balanced, gives me good firepower with the gunner weapons, and I wouldnt be a slouch in CC.

A few questions I have with this list...

1. How do I represent on the Vet mini with the combiplasma... how do I represent the sword on the model? Do I just let people know its there? Or should I find a sword and glue it on him somewhere?

2. Additionally with this list, I dont know what the Fireteam perk is that was listed, can anyone help me out there?

3. Does the Sargent and the Melee Vet forgo their bolters? So they cannot shoot and they are only melee?

4. A question that doesnt pertain to the list, and just a general question, I see a lot of people using two power swords for the Black Shield, why? I thought you could only choose one weapon to make an attack with.

Moving onto DG. Help me make a solid list. Again, I have the box of 7 DG marines and the box of 6 pox. Can someone help me out here?

1. There's options for combi-weapons in the DW starter

2. Fireteam rule is pretty long and convoluted, full rules are pg. 204 of the Kill Team rule book.

3. Yes they trade in their bolters for the storm shield/HTH, power maul is just an additional option

4. I'd recommend you check here (https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/762137.page) for both sides of that rule argument pre-errata. Post errata I now side with Mordekeim as they've changed hits to attacks. The option for 2 Power Swords is there so that you can use those miniatures if you've built 'em that way but otherwise they give no advantage.

I still want to know the best way to represent a DW vet with the combi plasma. He has a power sword, what should I do there?

Also, can someone help me out with a list for DG?

You can either convert it or use the official kit. It has that loadout as an option.

With the plague marine box and some poxwalkers, you can make a pretty good list that should do well against just about anything.

Leader
Plague Champion: Leader, Plaguesword, Plasma pistol

Specialists
Plague Marine Fighter: Combat, Great plague cleaver
Plague Marine Fighter: Zealot, Fail of corruption
Plague Marine Gunner: Heavy, Blight launcher

Non-specialists
Plague Marine Gunner: Plague spewer
Poxwalker
Poxwalker
Poxwalker

There are several power swords in the official kit (and one Xenophase blade). In fact I have a mini assembled with the same combi-plasma/power sword combo, and that uses nothing but the parts available in the box.

Any reason you gave the Heavy specialist a Blight Launcher, an assault weapon, and not the Plague Spewer, which is a heavy? Also, help me understand the value of this weapon. It seems like I have one shot to use it and then I am engaged in CC.

Because the Heavy specialism also works with Assault weapons by allowing them to Advance and not suffer the penalty to hit. It also gives them access to the More Bullets tactic to increase their hit rolls to 3, which at S6 -2AP with D3 damage and a 24" range is downright nasty. The plague spewer automatically hits so giving it to a Heavy specialist doesn't help it that much because moving doesn't matter. Another option is to swap the two but make the plague spewer a Demolitions specialist instead of Heavy. This would just come down to personal choice.

Also, considering that the blight launcher is the best ranged weapon that the DG have access to, it's best to keep them away from charges as much as possible.

Now, keep in mind, I know nothing. Haha.

I was given a similar list from a different source, which I like. I can also BUILD this list with one box which is also nice.

But the only way the list differs is that they used a leader with a Plasma Gun and a Powerfist, and only one Pox. Thoughts?

I’m not a fan of expensive leaders because you often have to sacrifice too much useful stuff to get them. Having only one poxwalker means you’ll only six models on the board and run the risk of having to take break tests sooner.

There are a lot of DG champs with power fist (dark imperium, easy to build, standalone) so it makes sense to build one without fist from the 7 plague marine set.

The easy to build plague marine set includes a blight launcher if you want to run two of them.

Yeah you want to make up the multi part without copying the same as the ETB, except double the BL from it.
Another Bolter is useful as it means you can build more specials from that box.
I made all 7 as the special stuff from the kit, as I had ETB and Dark Vengeance Bolter guys
