Can House Hawkshroud use bigger war machines than Imperial Knights such as Warhounds, Reavers and Warlord Titans? Or do the bigger war machines fall into a different organizational group?

Moved to a more appropriate forum. This is sort of a hybrid lore/rules question, so I'll leave it here.

Short version: No. The Knight Houses are completely separate from the Titan Legions, and even have a different technological basis.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

This is true, but your models your lore!

Just imagine that certain titans have been seconded to Hawkshroud for some reason. Maybe their original crews were killed and the titans are needed for some ongoing conflict, so they've been given special permission to crew it themselves. Maybe an Inquisitor is involved, they are the best way of getting this sort of thing done!

Then again question is why feel the need? They can fight together anyway(indeed my Legio Victorum will have banner of 6 hawkshroud knights in support) so just come up with suitable colour scheme. As it is no reason why you can't do yellow titan anyway.

No, the knights can be attached but not the other way around but it’s your army

No, the Titan Legions and Knight house holds are separate organizations. The IOM is very careful to not have any one organization to have to much control over it's military forces.

Also rogue traders, they can have all sorts of assets.

Unless you happen the be the guy who came up with those whole idea of dividing the authority in the first place; then it is fine for you to have the ultimate authority... Funny how that turned out, almost like it was planned...

As for the actual question, I wonder would it be possible for a high ranking Knight, such as Baron or Grand Poobah or whatever to have titans seconded under their command instead of it working other way around?

I wonder what an inquisitor that pulls something like that does, when durning the next refuel he is informed by the local magos that there is no fuel for his ship at the moment, and that the machine spirit of his ship is angry and requires a full cycle of prayer, which can be anything from months to years.

Or even worse when the inquisitor returns to his home base after, what he thinks is a good job done, only to be called by his lord to explain his actions and give fixes to the Italian Style Strike the ad mecha decided to pull off against the sectors inqusitorial forces.

Wars have been waged for parts of titans or even energy cells to specific weapons. No titan legion or Ad mecha forge world would allow a knight house hold on to a titan. Not to mention the fact that every ad mecha priest assigned to the house would rebel at the very thought of puting a knight pilot with a knight pilot up link in to a titan control chair and hook him up to it when it clearly has a titan link up plug socket.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I think Inquisitors that tried to commandeer some Titans will "accidentally" be stepped on. Or they just go missing, like those inquisitors that were investigating certain Space Marine Chapters.
