Greetings all,

After a pretty long hiatus (maybe a year or so) from X-wing I decided to hike on up to Gardner to http://gardnergameknights.com for a quick tournament. What better way to jump into 2nd edition, right?

I decided to bring a few toys that I haven't seen on streams yet along with a few that the internet seems to have decided were pretty good.

My list, based on speed & surprise was called "No one expects the Sith Inquisition!"

Grand Inquisitor (58)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Proton Rockets (7)

“Duchess” (42)
Juke (4)
Fifth Brother (12)

Major Rhymer (34)
Trick Shot (1)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
Cluster Missiles (5)
Skilled Bombardier (2)
Seismic Charges (3)
Proton Bombs (5)

Total: 191

I could have crammed a stripped down 7th sister in there, but that, I reasoned, was too many eggs in way too fragile a basket. And I figured with Rhymer, I was at least slightly tech-ed up to deal with swarms should I encounter one (spoiler, there were 3 at the tournament and I didn't play against any).

Game 1 against Chuck, the store owner (or at least manager) who was very kind to accommodate my late arrival (traffic accident added 15 minutes to a 70ish minute drive).

He was running Dash & Jan Ors. Dash was pretty tricked out with rigged cargo, Bistan, perceptive copilot and title, I think. Jan had Moldy Crow and Jyn. I gave him 1st player.

He k-turned Dash t1 and dropped the cargo, creating a really dense debris field, but then subsequently ran Dash away from it & Jan through it. I ate at least one, very painful shot from dash through obstacles (r2, I think) into the bomber and immediately decided there was no way I was running my ships on one side of the debris with dash on the other.

The bomber got killed without doing much. Jan went down shortly after. Inky got his prockets off before dieing (and I realized that I need to TL on turns like that... 3 hits is ok, but you want the reroll there). Inky died to a blank out vs Dash (4 dice is not nice to a ship that starts with 2 hull 2 shields).

It came down to Duchess vs a badly wounded dash at the end with Dash kinda trapped in a corner (he dialed a red move when stressed, and had the crit where his hard turns were red). Dash shot, double focused and I rolled enough natural evades to avoid dieing. Duchess got the kill.

Result: Win. 200-162, with 2 or 3 minutes left.

Game 2 against Mike (from https://www.battlegroundgames.com/ running Lando (Han gunner, I think ), Kavil (dorsal turret), 4-Lom (w/ 0-0-0) and autopilot drone.

I got pretty well crushed in this one; Partly because I had target priority problems - I didn't really know which ship to try to knock out first so I ended up spreading my fire around... mostly between Kavil & Lando. Mike also focused on Duchess first, killing her quite quickly then dropping the cargo on Inky. A tokenless Tie Adv. V1 is a dead inquisitor... Rhymer was then initiative killed. One seismic did go off, but under 4-lom in a turn that might've been better to keep it from shooting.

Mike had a plan for dealing with aces and executed it very well. I was just outplayed from the beginning. Less fun than game 1 but I learned... and I had time between games for food!

Result: 37-200, 1 damage away from 1/2 on Lando (because of the docked escape craft ) Something like 30 minutes left.

Final game: Guri, Dalan, Quinn (lots of collision detectors on the vipers, a missile/torp on the M3).

With my bid (9 points) and Inky's supernatural reflexes shenanigans and Duchess' advanced ailerons my opponent got kinda salty, and Guri dieing to a 1-shot prockets from Inky didn't help.

I tried a new strategy of t1 k-turn with Rhymer and flipped a seismic out t2. Unfortunately it only hit Inky & Duchess ... but it forced the 'vipers to use their actions rolling away. So that almost certainly helped. Rhymer also got a R1 advanced torps into Dalan (but was on 1 hull so died to the skyk after).

Results: 200-56 with 33 minutes left.

Mike, who beat me in R2, took 2nd after a close win in the final round to one of the other 2-0 players (Chris, who I've played against at http://www.pandemoniumbooks.com/ . Another fellow from Battleground took 1st. My MOV put me in 4th behind Chris.

No loot other than the participation shield upgrade card, but still not a bad showing for my 1st day of 2nd edition.

Lessons learned: I think I'm going to try Tomax Bren in the bomber. I think having the full squadron at i5 will be more useful than r0 missile possibilities ... I may try proton torpedo & Elusive on Tomax as it seems to be the best match with his pilot ability (crack shot only works for primary attacks) ... but barrage rockets & saturation salvo also seems really strong.
