I didn’t see any mention of this here. I accidentally stumbled upon this myself just earlier today.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/troubadour/hagglethorn-hollow/description

These guys are Weta Workshop people and the terrain looks absolutely amazing.

How does it cost less to send stuff from New Zealand to USA than New Zealand to Australia?

It doesn't. But Americans are butthurt when they have to pay higher shipping cost for once (see Forgotten World KS).
A lot of UK Kickstarters have UK and US shipping on one level and continental Europe on a higher (realistic) price level for shipping because we're used to it. Same goes for AUS/NZ etc.

I actually think the prices for the painted stuff are quite good. Yes, it is expensive, but a table of GW plastics is a lot more expensive, and GW plastics come unpainted on a sprue.

Also, do not look at the most expensive pledge level, as it includes duplicates and triplicates of several pieces. For instance, the tavern and longhouse have the same two bottom levels. Only the roof is different. The bottom level of these is also shared with the ancient palace ruins. On top of that, a bunch of these buildings work with or without the bottom (dungeon) level. So if you buy:

Nz 225 - $ 150 Long House + Homestead
Nz 263 - $ 175 Tower + GuildHall
Nz 248 - $ 165 Tavern + Cottage
Nz 093 - $ 060 Palace Ruins Walls
-------------------
Nz 829 - $ 550

You could make a lot of different setups, including, for instance, these 7 medium to massive buildings all at the same time:
Long House without dungeon level
Homestead
Tower
GuildHall
Tavern
Cottage
Ancient Palace Ruins

If you added the Chieftains Hall Roof ($45), the Barracks roof ($35) and the Stronghold Ruins Walls ($55) you could make all buildings and ruins on the kickstarter (but not at the same time!)

It really does cost less. Importing a container isn't all that expensive per item that's in that container, and US domestic shipping is some of the cheapest anywhere in the world. They ship a container direct to their fulfillment center in the USA, so you are really comparing US domestic shipping rates to New Zealand international shipping rates. Americans are still butthurt a lot over shipping though.

True, however that's kind of saying that something very expensive is reasonable because it's not quite as expensive as something else which is even more expensive.

Check out the cost of ready painted resin aquarium scenery if you want a sticker price shock. They aren't as integrated as the Hagglethorn Hollow pieces but they're 1/5th the price.

That said I wish the Kickstarter well. There probably are enough players willing to splurge that much money to get it off the runway.

I have to wonder how much the price is affected by them having interiors. They're really not needed for most tabletop games; I'd prefer cheaper terrain without interiors.

That is some utterly beautiful terrain! I have to say a fair bit of terrain pre-made can be rather "flat" in terms of its style, which is fine its being a decoration on the table. This is just really top class and I'm very glad to see its funded so well because I'd love to own some "one day". I can see this being great for quest style games and skirmish games, esp because of the interiors.

Sure a wargamer might not want the interiors because most 40K/AoS sized wargames just don't do inside buildings, but you can bet if you threw down a full table of that you'd have one epic adventure game on it! A fantasy style Necromunda (Mordhiem) would be outstanding on a board like that.

Not exorbitant prices for such beauties, but I think Tabletop World's stuff is of better calibre (albeit a different style) for a more affordable price tag.

Worth watching the lengthy video from Tested with Adam Savage where he goes and interviews the guy who designed it. Very slick. I'd buy some if I had the money --- really modular and well thought out terrain.

They're nce for rich kids to set up dioramas, but they look to have terrible utility for an actual game, other than the ruins. The interiors are too small to allow tactical movement. For any D&D or RPG game you'd be locked in place in a fight (ie boring). The exteriors have few ledges, the doors/windows are all closed screwing w LOS, and the roofs wont allow placement. They're pretty LOS blockers, but that's about it.

I really wish Dwarven Forge would get out of catering to their ridiculously niche audience and do a basic dwarvenite tile set for the town set in the style of their first two kickstarters, But they have to put needlessly fiddly crap in there like magnets, lights, wall posts etc to jack up the price and lower the ease of builds.

I have checked out aquarium pieces before, but I have never seen anything this big. I think pricing is comparable if you buy three or four big painted pieces (i.e. the equivalent of what you get in a single building on this Kickstarter), and paint quality is a heck of a lot worse on aquarium stuff.
Now, Walmart sell a Christmas village that is priced cheap, with paint jobs to match (so butt-ugly, basically)

This all relies on the final produced pieces having paint jobs that match those shown off in the Kickstarter, but I do trust that production quality will be close to the standard that has been shown.

Tabletop World's stuff is amazing, no arguments, but they are unpainted, and they are somewhat smallish for the scale they are supposed to be (I've seen them in person, and this has which has actually stopped me from ordering from them). Price-wise Tabletop World is actually more expensive. Their Inn is comparable-ish to the Tavern of Hagglethorn Hollow, and it is ~$135 for the inn vs $120 for the Tavern (which is both bigger and fully painted!)

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I don't know how you managed to get the impression TTW buildings are too small for their scale if you saw them in person. I actually own some of their buildings, they're entirely in-scale for "28mm heroic" stuff - and I'm the kind of obsessive regarding scale who made sure to get measurements from them before I bought anything.

I'll happily buy the STLs for this stuff for a Bretonnian village board, but there's really no comparison with TTW, they're the best around.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Hmm, as the owner of a village of TTW I never had any issue with the scale, at least not relative to any other 28mm scenery I'm familar with. though perhaps I'm misjudging the size of the Hagglethorn stuff as being smaller than it actually is. Personally I would always prefer to paint scenery myself, but I can of course appreciate the attraction of pre-painted products.

I see what you mean about the scale -these are considerably bigger than I'd thought, and therefore worth the money

That is a phenomenally cheap price for the size and quality. Honestly surprised their price point is lower than Tabletop World.

Yup and aquarium and wal-mart pieces will look amazing as terrain for the tin flat soldiers one could cast from Prince August molds and painted with Humbrol glossy enamel paints with a nylon brush. Bright green felt squares always look great as "fields" on the tabletop as well.

At the risk of being accused of thread necromancy, I think it is useful for the discussion to remind folks of earlier comments as we finally, after over a one year delay, have fulfillment commencing. NZ backers have had theirs, so we have seen examples of the production quality. Now the rest of us wait with bated breath for QML and ShipQuest to complete the journey started by Ike and Johnny at Tabletop Troubadour.

There is a good video by Johnny talking about how he has painted some of the production pieces he recently received. It nicely shows how you can change the look of a sculpt with some simple color changes... and how to save some money on painting large terrain pieces like these.

My wife and I love the design of HH and have been keenly waiting for its arrival. To be fair she was more optimistic than I was that we would ever get this delivered. I am a lot less trusting than she is and despite being a great artist, Johhny has not been so great on communication. No doubt Mrs. GG will enjoy giving me that “I told you so” look once it finally gets here.

We have an all in pledge with add ons that will be a core element of our future gaming if it is as excellent in person as it looks in the photos and videos online. I will be sure to post a review on my blog.

How many of you backed it?

How many will be interested in the 3d printing STL KS campaign they hope to do in a couple of months with Printable Scenery?

We got a couple of emails this morning to say the deliveries will be with us today! Such a long journey....

I do wonder what Tabletop Troubadour will do in the future but they really need to improve their communication and customer interaction.

Wishing you a speedy delivery Newtruthneomaxim. What storage have you planned for HH? We are hoping to use our current IKEA Billy display vitrines.

Caylentor, we have not gotten into 3d printing but we do hope TT gets the STL files out to people. We want to see all the different paint schemes and modifications people do.
