A new television series teaming the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Falcon and the Winter Soldier is in development for Disney's streaming service, which is set to launch in 2019.

According to Variety, the limited series will be penned by Empire screenwriter Malcolm Spellman, becoming the first of Marvel's planned limited series on Disney's streaming platform to tap a writer. The Falcon and Winter Soldier series is now the third limited series reportedly in development for Disney Play, following earlier announcements of a Loki and Scarlet Witch solo series. Marvel and Disney declined to comment on the report.

While Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their roles as Loki and Scarlet Witch in their respective series, it was not reported whether Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) will suit up again for the Falcon and Winter Soldier series. The limited series will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, unlike other Marvel television offerings.

Sebastian Stan has portrayed the role of James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes in six films to date within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his first appearance occurring in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Anthony Mackie has portrayed Sam Wilson in five films to date, debuting in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Both actors are slated to appear in 2019's yet-titled fourth Avengers film.

Thats all pretty good. I like the idea of phasing in a next gen of movie characters while bringing the old gen into smaller more personal stories (hopefully) on the streaming service.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Always up for more of those two, definitely capable of carrying their own story with the dynamic between them. Must admit though, the most exciting thing there for me is the Scarlet Witch series, I was hoping we'd see more of her post-Avengers 4 as she's consistently been great but somewhat underused in AoU, Civil War and IW.

Spoiler:

Loki I can take or leave but I'm hoping it's a prequel, as I feel his end in IW was a satisfying conclusion to his story and it'd cheapen it to bring him back.

Now if we can just get a Hawkeye series...

I have heard that there is an actress signed on for avengers 4. The theory goes that she is playing kate bishop. The young girl hawk eye whos a total bad ass.

I would like to see a hawkeye show/movie where clint trains her to take over while he retires to his family.

As for loki, i would love to see agent of asguard. Where he has to do missions for the norns with each good deed being repentence for one of his past misdeeds in equal measure. That or him reborn as kid loki and fighting against his past self legacy.

Yeah, double Hawkeyes would be a really cool premise. Clint in a mentor role ties into the family side of him they've already established and would be similar to the dynamic he has with Wanda in AoU/Civil War which worked well. Lots of ways that setup could go tonally as well, anything from a slick spy thriller to a more light-hearted buddy-hero movie.

Young Avengers as a whole would actually be a really neat thing to bring in, but given how young Cassie Lang is in Ant-Man that's got to be at least a decade or so off in-universe unless they go for some time-travel shenanigans (which, given Iron Lad's true identity, isn't necessarily out of the question...)

Wasnt there something a while back about a Teenage Actress playing Cassie in Avengers 4 or was that just a rumor? If its true they could certainly use it as base to play around with the Young Avengers.

That ones not a rumor. That actress is 16?ish and officially cast as Cassie Lang.
Spoiler:
Theory goes that Scott will get out of the Quantum Realm through one of those warned about "Time Vortexes" and end up 10 years in the future in the aftermath of IW where he will go to find his daughter who survived but is obviously much older and thought her dad died.

The potentially Kate Bishop actress is somebody else.

Well since Cassie will be older, they can set something up.

Ya know, I also wouldn't be too bothered if the rumor Red posted about the other actress is true.

Speaking of actors who we dont know the character they are playing, Hiroyuki Sanada is in A4 as someone, and he's not opposed to being on TV shows.

Will be interested to see what they do with them. The Netflix Marvel series have been pretty poor so far.

That Disney+ live-action tv series about Elizabeth Olsen‘s Avengers character the Scarlet Witch finally has a title, and it’s a pretty telling one.

According to a lengthy-and-in-depth report from Deadline earlier today, a title emerged for the series:

Marvel Studios star Elizabeth Olsen has played Scarlet Witch as a supporting character in four films to date. The character will be a title character for the first time next year with the launch of “Vision and the Scarlet Witch”, a Disney+ streaming series.

The Scarlet Witch series joins the already-confirmed Tom Hiddleston-starring Loki series, and the announced Winter Soldier-Falcon team up series, but no word on if we’ll be seeing Sebastian Stan or Anthony Mackie returning to their respective roles.

Still no word on if Olsen or Bettany will appear in the series.

Disney+ will launch sometime in 2019.

It might be a little bit late but one of the premiere women of the Marvel universe is finally getting her first solo outing. It took other studios making bank for Marvel to finally pull this trigger and back in July Cate Shortland was hired to direct the production. There was finally movement but Marvel is playing their post-Avengers 4 plans very close to the chest.

It seems like we might have a better idea. According to Deadline, the Black Widow movie could be coming a lot sooner than we originally expected. This is the closest to a confirmation that we’ve gotten on this production so far. Deadline is reporting that the production is set to film next year and they are eyeing a 2020 release date.

Additionally, filming starts next year on Marvel’s Black Widow film, which had been a back-burner priority before the success of rival DC’s Wonder Woman movie. Scarlett Johansson has portrayed the super-spy in six Marvel films and was part of the exhaustive seven-month search for the right director. More than five dozen filmmakers (all of them women) were interviewed before Cate Shortland (Lore) was hired. The film is aimed at a 2020 release.

At the moment all we know is that the movie is likely to be a prequel which could be a lot of fun. She wouldn’t be a hero in that context so following an anti-hero in one of the movies would be something new that they’re explored only on TV so far. If they really are filming next year then we’ll start getting some confirmations on casting sooner rather than later.

can't help but wonder if these shows -- especially prequels -- might well be a factor in ( cheaper ? ) recasting of ( younger ? ) actors as a serious driving factor.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Given they've been perfectly happy to blow a fortune de-aging Fury & Coulson for Captain Marvel, not to mention the lengths they went to so that Evans could play both Plucky Weedy Bloke and Captain Muscles McShirtless, I don't see them starting to recast existing characters this early in the franchise(because you can be damned sure they're looking at this as a multi-decade proposition).

They're more likely to recast mantles based on the newer "Oh gak...err...no we're totes diverse now, honest guv! Look, have a black female teenage Iron Man!" comic direction. I'd prefer they didn't, and just used the films as an excuse to give characters like Shuri greater emphasis and prominence, but it's more likely than them trying to find new actors to play specifically Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Nick Fury etc etc.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
