Subject: Designing a Mega Battle Mission

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Hey everyone! I’m designing a mega battle mission for my local community and I’ve come up with what I think is a fun fluffy idea but want some feedback.
So essentially the background for this mission is that the planet the two sides “loyalists vs traitors” are attempting to capture was attempting to stay neutral during the civil war. The governor was hoping that since his planet was relatively isolated, they could play it safe and ride out the war until someone emerged victorious and they could just swear allegiance to the new head honcho.
Soooo, I was going to just play on the side of the traitors, but then I thought... hey I’m basically the GM, why don’t I use my Militia army as a 3rd faction that is desperately holding onto the capitol buildings as the two legion sides duke it out and attempt to seize the capitol?
For reference, my Milita would be a small force compared to the two main sides which are likely to have around 8-10k each.
I’m planning on having various objectives worth VP with some battlefield effects spread over the table which is going to be 4x12, but I’m thinking the “capitol building” and the model representing the planetary governor will be worth lots of VP, especially the Capitol which will create an incentive to try and take it.
I kinda like the idea of the two sides having to jockey around the desire to take out Enemy legion units, seize the easier to get to mid field objects or try and send some forces to take control of the capitol from the local militia.
So I’m wondering a few things.
1. Have any of you played a game with 3 sides using 7th Ed or AoD 1st Ed?
2. Should I have a full normal turn for my Milita, or have a limited series of actions that my units can perform (ie only shoot at Units that shoot at them, limited movement options, basically my actions take place solely within the two sides turns?
3. Am I crazy or does this actually sound like a fun idea?

Sounds cool, for limited actions i would probably do somthing like the tarantula turrets where every unit has a preferd type of target eg infantry, vehicle, flyer that they must fire at if in range. It might also be a good idea to have a coin toss for every unit to determine if they fire at loyalist or traitor unless a unit is within 6" or in assault with them. Another idea is to bring d3 units that have died back every turn so that the other players dont focus fire you at the start of the game.

Nice! I had thought of the bringing back dead Militia thing, but using the tarantula turrets as a basis for how the militia will act makes sense

Another idea is to have a special guard unit to protect the planatary governer you could use the old veteran rules or maybe the tempestus scion rules. Give them splitfire and feel no pain and they could be a fun and fluffy unit to fight against

We want pictures and feedback when you have done it !
It sounds like a fun idea, but indeed, the heroes of the day are the two players, not the GM, I guess. Limited action seems better, however if they have 8k points and you only 3/5k points, even a full turn will seem shorter so...

Well there will be multiple players per side, at least 2 each, with a smaller Zone Mortalis game going on a separate table. Don’t worry I’ll definetly share photos.
I might not end up fielding my stuff as a separate army depending on the number of people who show. But it seems like a fun idea, and yeah maybe pre set “activations” and some kind of rudimentary flow chart of actions would be fun for them.
