Been Around the Block

Hi all,

I've been playing a few games vs O&Gs and now have a game aganist Skaven. As Dwarfs, my units tend to be small-ish in size. I've never played against Skaven, but one of my issues with O&Gs has been dealing with huge blocks of elite units, or 50+ blocks of Goblins.

My question to you is: What's the best strategy in general when going against huge blocks of Skaven for example? Knowing their shooting is strong, and they're close to unbreakable due to their 10,000 ranks and steadfast.

Any help would be appreciated!

Shoot down the really dangerous long range stuff. Keep your army tight together, Bundle your fire rather on one unit than spread it on 2 separate ones, in order to cause panic tests.

Huge armies makes the units less manouverable. Use this to your advantage. Make them go the long way, block his path with your own sturdy little dwarfs.

Skaven are a bit like undead in the sense that they rely heavily on their general. They need their general to keep their leadership high for steadfast.

If you kill their general, they’re only steadfast on a low leadership number, which gets worse as you kill more of them, which isn’t hard to be honest.

I usually just suicide charge a unit of cavalry into their general and kill him quickly. Dwarfs don’t usually have that option, but you could try to kit a dwarf lord out specifically for killing their general.

Flame cannons are your friend.

Also, take lots of gyrocopters and throw them into his chaff units like slaves and goblins. That will hold them in place for a long time while you deal with the bigger threats. Skaven and orc units are usually pretty massive too, if you hold up his front lines with gyrocopers then you mess up his ability to outmaneuver you also. He might need another 2 turns to connect with your front line which is perfect.

All you have to do really is take out some expensive priority targets with shooting and hold up the rest of his army with your defensive line. You’ll win a minor victory in points alone, and the rest of it will be a grinding slog in the middle.

Square Bases for Life!
AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi
